The original Danganronpa was published by NIS America and originally released here in North America on February 11, 2014. It is easily one of my favorite games of the year (Check out my review here). Shortly after its release, it was announced that its sequel would be coming out a short seven months later.
Just like the original game, 
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is a visual novel with a murder mystery twist. Unlike the first game where the characters are trapped in a high school, this time all of the characters (again a set of students from Hope’s Peak Academy) are trapped on the tropical Jabberwock Island. Are you ready for more information about free games? If so, you are in luck because the PlayStation Blog has announced all of the free games that North American PlayStation Plus users will be able to download during September.
Each platform will receive at least two games and some platforms will receive even more if a game is cross-buy between multiple systems. One game PlayStation 4 users can look forward to receiving this month is the brand new addicting Velocity 2x. PlayStation 3 users will receive the very fun PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale along with several other titles thanks to cross-buy. PlayStation Vita gets a great this month with both TxK and Joe Danger.
As you may know Sony has recently changed their release schedule for PlayStation Plus games and members will now have access to all games on the first Tuesday of each month. However, the free games are only available for one month so do not delay in claiming your free games! Make sure you’ve picked up the free games from August if you haven’t already!

You haven’t forgotten about the PlayStation 3, have you? Sony certainly hasn’t, as you can now download an optional system update. Specifically, the PS3 firmware 4.65 brings minor tweaks with it and addresses system bugs that help the overall PS3 stability.

Welcome to the PlayStation Store update for August 26, 2014. We have a great update this week packed full of new content and sales. PlayStation 4 users can now take on the role of Fetch in the standalone title inFamous First Light. Madden NFL 15 comes to both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 today as well.
PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 users can now enjoy the very entertaining OlliOlli. There is also a sale going on this week to celebrate PAX that includes titles for all 3 systems. Some of the highlights include: Child of Light, Transistor, and Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut (see our review here).
Finally, as you are probably aware PlayStation Plus users now receive all of their free games at the beginning of the month and each week users will enjoy extra discounts on specific games. This week users can also enjoy deeper discounts on the PAX sale.
The “Well, that escalated quickly” meme does not begin to describe what’s transpired in the past 24 hours. For those unfamiliar with the events that began early Sunday morning, I highly advise you to read our article that described the attacks (not hacks) that were directed at Sony, Blizzard, and Riot Games to name a few. Shortly after the attacks on PSN, the group responsible for the DDoS attacks sent a bomb threat to American Airlines flight carrying Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley.

As you might be aware, the PlayStation Network (PSN) and Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) were attacked early this morning after the responsible group had already attacked Blizzard (World of Warcraft), Grinding Gear Games (Path of Exile), and Riot Games (League of Legends). Some sites have reported that PSN among others has been hacked which is quite unfortunate because the reason for today’s outages among these different gaming platforms is due to a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) and not a hack. This is an important distinguishing factor as a ‘hack’ would mean that those responsible were able to gain access to Sony’s networks and infiltrate them which could possibly lead to your information being compromised.

Like other major networks around the world, the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network have been impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic.
Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been accessed.
We will continue to work towards fixing this issue and hope to have our services up and running as soon as possible.
We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.
The good news from all of this is that no personal information has been taken. Unfortunately, gaining access to PSN is still a bit shaky though things have improved dramatically since this morning. After the jump, some more thoughts and details about the attack that took place.

Much has already been written about Rise of the Tomb Raider becoming a timed exclusive on Xbox One. While exclusives or timed exclusives are nothing new to the industry, what made this matter a bit more surprising was that the last iteration of the game which was a reboot of Lara Craft was already multi-platform and rarely do multi-platform games go exclusive unless the studio is purchased by one of the console makers. In fact if you look at global sales of Tomb Raider from 2013, you can see the shocking difference between PlayStation and Xbox owners who purchased the game.

Looking at these numbers, it’s still a head scratcher that Square Enix decided to offer Rise of the Tomb Raider as a timed exclusive on Xbox One but that’s what a truck load of money will do. However, there seems to be another reason that Microsoft wanted the latest Lara Croft adventure on Xbox One and it has nothing to do with snubbing PS4 fans and more to do with fear of Uncharted 4.
The fact that the PS4 launched with a PlayStation on iOS and Android was a brilliant move by Sony that added a much needed functionality to the PS4. Simply put, typing on PS4 got a whole lot easier and the consoles experience extended beyond the need to be using it in person. You could now chat with friends, shop for games on PSN, and have all be ready by the time you got on your PS4 again. Still, there is no denying that the app itself is extremely basic in design and functionality. Seeing how fluid apps can be today, the PlayStation App mostly reminds me of how PSN was on PS3 when it first launched. Functional, but dated in its design language.
To drive that point home, the app launched on iOS device without support for Retina displays or the iPad which are fairly standard affairs. Sony would eventually update the app for iPad though Retina support is still lacking. Luckily for us, it seems that a redesign is on the way.
Kung Fu Rabbit is a platformer that first premiered on iOS and Android devices in 2012. Since then it has released on the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and most recently on the PlayStation Vita. Next week it will come to the PlayStation 3 as a digital title. This title from Neko Entertainment was highly acclaimed and received several awards as a mobile title. One of the biggest announcements to come from GamesCom 2014 was the lack of announcement for Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4. Specifically the fact that the game would arrive exclusively on Xbox One. With the Tomb Raider reboot having arrived on both consoles previously, the fact that Square-Enix would sign an exclusive deal with Microsoft and the Xbox One which are behind in sales made little sense to gamers. Especially after Square-Enix had previously revealed that the original Tomb Raider reboot needed to sell 6 million units to become profitable. Cutting your audience base in (more than) half made little sense which meant that Microsoft had to be cutting quite a large check to Square.
Thankfully for gamers, we’ve since learned that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be a timed exclusive on Xbox One though the specifics of the length have yet to be revealed. So why didn’t Sony try to negotiate their own exclusivity for the game and for that matter, why is it that games only trend to go exclusive on Xbox? Yesterday during their press conference at Gamescom 2014, Sony announced the next big update for the PlayStation 4 in Firmware 2.0. One of the biggest features to be included in the new firmware is Share Play. Touted as a ‘virtual couch’, Share Play will take the social features already ingrained into the PlayStation 4 to the next logical step. Up until this point it has only been possible to share your gaming experience via streaming, clips and screenshots, but now with Share Play it will now be possible to invite a friend to join you in playing a game cooperatively even if they do not own it.
