‘P.T.’ Demo Revealed At Sony Gamescom Show Is More Than Meets The Eye

Warning: if you’re easily scared, you may just want to read the sub-headline of this story and turn around. Which is probably what I should’ve done, but I’m going to muster through. At yesterday’s Sony Gamescom press conference, a trailer was released for a project called P.T. from a developer called 7780s Studio. The trailer revealed that the “world’s first interactive teaser” would be available only on PlayStation; you can see the teaser here:

Some PlayStation Now Rentals Drop to $1.99 for 4 hrs, $9.99 for 90 Days

As Sony has said time and time again, PlayStation Now is a beta. That beta tag extends beyond the technological aspect like server tweaks and games offered to the business model that surrounds the gaming rental initiative. Despite my argument that a 4-hour rental that’s priced between $2.99 to $4.99 with a majority of titles leaning towards the $2.99 range is a good deal, many of you disagreed with my sentiment. Now, Sony is tweaking its pricing initiative with certain titles starting at $1.99 for a 4-hour rental.

Meet ‘Rime’ – The Exclusive PS4 Cute Cel-Shaded Adventure Platform Puzzler

Shown at GamesCom, Rime is a PlayStation 4 exclusive adventure platform puzzler by Tequila Works. Taking a cue from similar titles like Ico, Rime takes place on an island where “a boy wakes on the shore to find he’s lost, with only the island and the animals to accompany him.”

While not a lot is known about the game at this time, if the trailer after the jump is any indication, we’re in for a treat. After the jump, the trailer and a few more details await you.

Welcome to the PlayStation Store update for August 12, 2014. We have a great update this week packed full of new content and sales. PlayStation 4 users can now purchase a the popular title Surgeon Simulator Anniversay Edition.

Users of all 3 systems can now purchase the unique Hohokum as part of the 2014 PlayStation PLAY Program. Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed are now available for both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita while Disgaea 4: A Promis Revisited is available to users of PlayStation Vita.

Finally, as you are probably aware PlayStation Plus users now receive all of their free games at the beginning of the month and each week users will enjoy extra discounts on specific games. This week there is a pretty large sale on titles relating to Anime games/movies and PlayStation Plus users enjoy even bigger discounts.

PS4 Firmware 2.0 Gets Detailed

One of the big announcements for you software junkies was PS4 firmware 2.0 that will be coming this fall. What Sony has yet to reveal all the details about the upcoming firmware update, as the numbering scheme suggests, it will be an extensive one. Looking to expand on the already highly capable social features of the PS4, with firmware 2.0, gamers will be able to upload videos directly to YouTube. This also means that PS4 will finally get a native YouTube app, great for thus who want to just watch some Epic Rap Battles of History. PS4 Passes 10 Million Units Sold in 9 Months

Besides The Last of Us Remastered and a few indie titles, the summer has been fairly quite for the powerful PS4. However, that’s not stopping Sony from passing new milestones with the PS4 passing the 10 million units sold in just 9 months. To put that into perspective, that means in the past 3 months, Sony has sold 3 million units as they crossed the 7 million units mark in late April. With a slew of games coming out over the next few months which include Destiny and DriveClub, the PS4 is poised to have a stellar holiday ahead.

‘The Last of Us’ Movie to be Different Than Its Game Counterpart

As you’ve probably heard and hopefully experienced, The Last of Us, be it on the PS3 or now PS4 is a masterpiece. Thrilling gameplay, beautiful visuals, and a haunting score make it one of the highest award video games ever. But the true soul of the game like any Hollywood film isn’t in the visual spectacle, but the script. At its heart, The Last of Us is about a broken man that’s told in a post apocalyptic world. Unlike a film thats usually about 2 hours in lengthy, Naughty Dog and company had over 15 hours to tell their tale, something that they won’t be able to do once The Last of Us film is released.

To help make the transition from video game to the silver screen, Neil Druckmann, Creative Director on The Last of Us is doing some major rewrites to make the film happen.

In two hours you can’t tell the same kind of story that you can in a game like The Last of Us, which is 15 hours

Destiny Beta Stats Will Not Transfer

Much to the dismay of fans who participated in the Destiny beta, the stats gained during that time will not transfer to the full version of the game once released on September 9th. Till now, Bungie had been unsure if they would keep the stats gained from the beta but their recent blog updates makes their decision clear.

The Last of Us Remastered Patch 1.02 Gets Released

In a continued effort to enhance and stabilize the online multiplayer portion of The Last of Us Remastered on PS4, Naughty Dog has released patch 1.02. Specifically, The Last of Us Remastered patch 1.02 will reduce the matchmaking delays found in the recently released game. The latest patch comes in at 142MB and is already live in North America. Fans in Europe will have to wait till the weekend while those in Asia won’t see the patch arrive till next week.

Sony’s Project Morpheus to Use OLED Displays

Morpheus, the Oculus Rift-like prototype headset from Sony is part of a ambitious future that Sony envisions for PlayStation 4 and potentially beyond. Like Oculus Rift (recently purchased by Facebook), Sony believes that Morpheus can bring an entirely new type of gaming to PlayStation while also enhancing current games with a degree of immersion not seen before. Part of that is by creating the illusion that you as the gamer are in that world. To help achieve that, you need all the visual quality that your eye can handle and what better to provide this visual fidelity than an OLED display?
