Bungie Unclear if ‘Destiny Beta’ Progress Will Carry to Full Game

E3_Destiny_Beta

The highly anticipated Destiny beta will kickoff this Thursday, giving gamers one more chance to jump into the massive world built by Bungie before its official release. Previously, PlayStation 4 owners had exclusive access to the Destiny alpha which only gave them a glimpse of what’s to come. The Destiny beta on the other hand will be much more expansive which begs the question. When Destiny launches on September 9th, will the progress attained during the beta carry over to the full game or will we have to start our characters all over?

The answer from Bungie? Unclear. Let us explain.

No Clutch Support for ‘DriveClub’…. Currently

DriveClub_InteriorAs DriveClub continues to race (had to) towards its October 7th release date, we continue to find out more small tidbits about the highly anticipated ‘social’ racing simulator. One such piece of news comes from Game Director Paul Rustchynsky, who revealed on Twitter that ‘DriveClub’ would not launch with clutch support. That means those who were looking for an extra authentic racing experience will simply have to rely on shifting without that extra feedback – but it’s not really a bad thing, and it actually makes sense. Andrew_House_PS4

Sony Computer Entertainment President Andrew House has been revealing a lot about the PS4 and the future of PlayStation during the Develop Conference in Brighton. One such revelation is about the future of PlayStation and gaming in general. Andrew House believes that:

There are two or three potential directions that our industry and our form of entertainment could go

So what exactly are those directions? Let’s talk after the jump.

Could Early Access Titles Come To PS4?

PS4 Early Access

In an interview with Gamasutra, SCEA VP for Publisher & Developer Relations Adam Boyes talked about the future of the PS4, including the possibility of bringing something akin to Steam’s Early Access games to the console.

For the uninitiated, Steam Early Access is essentially community-driven development. As described on Valve’s own site, Early Access games “are games that evolve as you play them, as you give feedback, and as the developers update and add content.” Games that have been in or are currently in Early Access include DayZ, Rust, Starbound, and Plague Inc. Evolved, and titles can range anywhere from a near-full retail price of $39.99 to free or free-to-play.

Boyes, in speaking with Gamasutra, indicated that such a program might be a possibility for the PS4, and PlayStation consoles in general, going forward:

‘Uncharted 4’ to Move Beyond Crew Cuts & Feature More Realistic Hair

Uncharted_Nathan_Drake_Comparison

The Uncharted series has continuously pushed the boundaries of what can be delivered from a game in narrative, gameplay, and visuals. As can be seen from the image above, with each title released, Naughty Dog has pushed the visual fidelity of the game and its main hero Indiana Jones Malcom Reynolds Nathan Drake. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be no different, but there is one change that will be coming to the series that at first might go by unnoticed – character hair.

How To – Use a DualShock 4 Wirelessly With PS3

How_To_PS3_Dualshock_4

Ever since the DualShock 4 was introduced in conjunction with the PlayStation 4 last fall, I have been clamoring to use the superior controller with my PlayStation 3. While it has been possible to use the DualShock 4 directly wired to the PlayStation 3, it was not possible to use it wirelessly until now. On June 23rd the PlayStation 3 received updated firmware which discreetly added the ability to pair a DualShock 4 with a PlayStation 3 system. Keep reading for our step-by-step guide on how to use this new function.

Destiny – Human Male Character Builder (video)

When the Destiny Alpha was announced, we were lucky enough to get into the public release and play along for a few nights. While not nearly enough time was given to form a proper opinion on the game and nor was the true scale of the massive universe built by Bungie shown, the Alpha left us wanting more. And I mean a lot more. Fluid visuals, beautiful and extensive maps, and more importantly than any of those, a game that was easy to pick up and fun.

To wet your appetite a bit more for Destiny, we’ve put together a video walkthrough from the human male character builder. The captured footage is directly from the PS4 and the Alpha build. As the name suggests, this is an Alpha and anything is subject to change. With that, I hope this gives you a little glimpse of all the wonderful character builder options. In followup posts, we’ll also cover the Awoken and the Exo race.

List of First Party Games in Development for PlayStation Vita

PS_Vita_SlimDespite a lack of support from EA, Sony remains committed to the PlayStation Vita. To that end, as revealed by Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida, there are “many, many” first party games in development for the Vita. Some of those titles include:

  • Freedom Wars
  • Oreshika (JRPG)
  • Murasaki Baby
  • Helldivers (Cross Platform)
  • CounterSpy (Cross Platform)

Luckily for gamers, those aren’t the only titles coming out of Sony for the Vita. After the jump, we have a few more to share with you.

Will ‘The Last of Us Remastered’ on PS4 be 60fps After All?

The Last of Us Remastered - PS4

As it was on the PS3, The Last of Us on PS4 is expected to be a monstrous hit. Officially dubbed as The Last of Us Remastered, the HD port brings with it The Last of Us: Left Behind which takes place prior to the main events of the game. In addition to the extra content, what will truly make this port standout is the graphical upgrades its set to receive. While traditionally companies turn over game ports to other studios, Naughty Dog is internally handling the improved visuals that will bring the game from 720p to 1080p. Naughty Dog has promised higher resolution character models, improved shadow and lighting details, and much more that will make the game more than just a port.

Naughty Dog also hasn’t been shy about their ambitions of reaching 1080p 60fps, the holy grail of what many consider true next-gen visuals. Till now, we’ve only been told by Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann, the game’s Creative Directors, that they’d like to hit that target with no confirmation if the final product will actually offer that. Now, thanks to some teases from both men, we may just have the confirmation we’ve been looking for.

Many First Party Games in Development for PlayStation Vita

Shu_Yoshida_PS_Vita

Earlier this week, we ran an article about the reasons behind the lack of PS Vita support by EA. While EA sometimes doesn’t have the best reputation in the industry, their arsenal of games cannot be denied and their lack of support on Vita is truly a major hurdle for the portable console. With little time spent on the Vita at E3, many began to wonder if Sony shared a similar sentiment about their powerful portable. When Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida was interviewed in Spain last week, he was quoted saying

I would say, yes, that’s correct

When asked if there would be fewer first party titles on the Vita. Now the fan favored and outspoken Yoshida has gone on record to clarify his statement about first party games.
