PlayStation Home was released as a public beta back in 2008. It was/is Sony’s way of integrating a social community around the PS3 and its games. And while a virtual world where players can chat with people, make friends, and customize their avatars sounded like a great idea just two short years ago, social gaming has taken a different turn lately.
So in order to meet the demand, Sony is releasing a new and improved PlayStation Home where players can stills socialize, but also be a place where they play more expansive game experiences inside the PS Home world. More information on the revamped PlayStation Home after the break.
According to Sony, games are going to be at the heart of the new and improved PlayStation Home. In a recent interview with VentureBeat, Jack Buser, director of PlayStation Home had this to say about the direction of the service:
“This is a giant leap in the evolution of the platform; we are going to ‘up level’ games as the heart of PlayStation Home. This means that Home itself is going to become a game. The first things you see when you get into Home are games.”
Sony is also in the process of adding large-scale group games in addition to all the smaller ones like the ultra-popular Scribble Shooter.
There will be a new meeting place that will replace what used to be the Central Plaza. This new Hub is where players can find out what games are being played and join them. As well, there will be different districts available to be visited that reflect each of the gaming genres.
Sony has also been adding more and more fun and engaging games into the Home mix. With games like COGS, Scribble Shooter, Sodium Salt Shooter and others, gaming on PlayStation Home has actually become really popular.
It looks like the new and improved PlayStation Home may just become the Home that PS3 fans were looking for all these years. The new PS Home will be released later this fall. Stay tuned for more updates as they arrive.
