Earlier today, Capcom announced Resident Evil 6; the newest title in their venerable survival-horror franchise.
Set 10 years after the events that destroyed Raccoon City, Resident Evil 6 will star a number of protagonists led by series stalwarts Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield. Leon’s story is set in the fictional city of Tall Oaks. It’s been overrun by zombies (that’s right, zombies are back!) and the president of the United States has become one of the undead. It’s up to Leon and his partner to survive and learn the secrets of the new infection.
Chris’ story is set in China where he and his squad of marines battle through the city plagued by morphed majini-like monsters rampaging through the city. And finally, a third-yet unnamed character will join the mix, where he is partnered up with Resident Evil 4’s Ashley Graham. It seems his blood is very important and might spell the end for the infections; thus making him a key player in the Resident Evil universe.
From what we’ve seen, it seems like Leon’s campaign is a return to the survival-horror roots of the series. With darker environments, scarier enemies, and a more deliberate pace. It’s been something RE fans have been asking from Capcom for some time now.
On the other hand, Chris’ campaign seems more like a cross between the action-horror of Resident Evil 5 and the stop-and-pop Gears of War. There are more shootouts (Chris with his marine team) against multiple enemies and monsters, and heart-stopping set pieces like the ones found in RE5.
There hasn’t been much shown for the third, unnamed character. We’ll keep you guys posted as more news arrives.
Capcom has said that Resident Evil 6 will come to the PlayStation 3 on November 20, 2012.
