If you were wondering when you could finally get your hands on highly-anticipated PSN game Journey, the wait is finally over. Jenova Chen, lead Creative Director at thatgamecompany, announced over at the Playstation Blog that their newest game will be available through the Playstation Store on March 13 for $14.99. Journey is thatgamecompany’s third game, after flOw in 2007 and the critically-acclaimed Flower in 2009.
Chen also provides a few details regarding what players can expect from the game, which has largely been shrouded in mystery since its announcement. Journey, much like thatgamecompany’s previous outings, is largely experiential and played completely online.
“You wake alone and surrounded by miles of burning, sprawling desert, and soon discover the looming mountaintop which is your goal. Faced with rolling sand dunes, age-old ruins, caves and howling winds, your passage will not be an easy one. The goal is to get to the mountaintop, but the experience along the way is discovering who you are, what this place is, and what your purpose is. Travel and explore this ancient, mysterious world alone, or with a stranger you meet along the way. Soar above ruins and glide across sands as you discover the secrets of a forgotten civilization. Featuring stunning visuals, haunting music, and unique online gameplay, Journey delivers an experience like no other.”
From what thatgamecompany has revealed in the past, Journey is a multiplayer game that doesn’t use the typical lobby system, matchmaking, or multiplayer chat. Instead, players travel alone across the land, meeting other online players along the way. Little is known about the motivations behind the travels, with exploration and experience being the main draw, and, as with past offerings from thatgamecompany, Journey’s visual style and music design are also a big part of the appeal.
Be sure to keep an eye out for more updates on Journey and our full review when the game releases next month, on March 13.
