Aliens: Colonial Marines Preview

Ever since watching Aliens in the theatres, I’d always wondered what it would be like to be one of Apone’s Colonial Marines as they fought to survive the xenomorph-infested LV-426. Sure, there were the Alien vs. Predator games, and sure they were plenty fun, but once I finished the Marine campaign, the Predator and Alien campaigns definitely weren’t up to par. To be honest, I just bought the game to play as the Colonial Marine.

Picture this: You and your squad have just entered the darkness that is LV-426, the long hallways of cold black metal and the eerie silence surround you and keep you on edge. Suddenly the loud ‘ping’ coming from your motion tracker pierces your ears. There’s something or things coming, and it’s coming fast….

If that’s the kind of Aliens experience you’re looking for, then SEGA and Gearbox’s upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines definitely warrants a look. Steeped in James Cameron’s original vision of claustrophobic, dark, and eerie atmosphere and Iconic extraterrestrial evil, as well as Gearbox’s batte-tested experience in first-person shooting, Colonial Marines aims to put players right smackdab in the middle of a terrifying fight for survival as they attempt to uncover the fate of U.S.S Sulaco’s crew.

Fans of the Aliens film franchise will be delighted to know that Aliens: Colonial Marines features authentic Marine weaponry like the iconic Pulse Rifle, the Smart Gun, Shotguns, Flamethrowers, Motion Trackers, Grenades and more.

It will also feature environments from the films such as the aforementioned LV-426, Hadley’s Hope, and of course the U.S.S Sulaco. So expect lots of dark, claustrophobic, and frightening firefights with different types of xenomorphs including the Warrior xenomorphs, Facehuggers, and the Xenomorph Queen.

Aliens: Colonial Marines will also have a drop-in/drop-out cooperative campaign feature for up to four players. Gearbox has said that the entire campaign can be played by four players and “dropping in and out as necessary through self-contained missions within an over-arching narrative.”

There will be more information incoming regarding Aliens: Colonial Marines as we go forward in 2012. We’ll be sure to keep you guys updated as soon as we get them. The game is set to release for the PlayStation 3 in the Spring of 2012.
