Does GameSpot know something we don’t know? While game retailers tend to place outlandish dates on barely announced games without any real knowledge on the matter and offer highly fanboyish opinions to customers who walk in, due to their own personal views, they get things right here and there. This is especially true when it comes to gaming consoles and price drops where retailer like GameStop, Target, and Walmart get information weeks in advance so that they may market and print their store flyers. With the PS3 well into its 5th year on retail shelves, I’ve always had the inkling that at this year E3, Sony would drop the price of their Blu-ray playing, 3D gaming machine by another $50 and down to the magical $200.
With E3 less than two months away, does GameStop know something we don’t know? It may be possible that the retailer has received word from Sony that a price drop will be coming and had decided to drop the price early to stay ahead of other retailers like Walmart. It could also be that they came to the same conclusion that we did and for the same reason prior reason, decided to drop the price. Still, reasoning aside, gamers looking for an additional PS3 in the house or those who are looking to join the PlayStation ranks should be happy that GameStop is now offering the 160GB PS3 for $199.

Will the GameStop PS3 price drop convince you to buy another machine or jump on for the first time?
