The highly anticipated and PlayStation 3 exclusive, Starhawk, is now officially available at retailers across the US. A semi followup to now 5 year old Warhawk, the original multiplayer king on the PlayStation 3, Starhawk has players taking on the roll of Emmett Graves, a rift mine on the Frontier. Unlike Warhawk which only featured online multiplayer, Starhawk builds with a full campaign which not only helps depict the world, but also familiarizes you with the games weapons and tactics. Like Warhawk, the true gem of the game can be found online where players can battle in 32-player maps, featuring the Razorback a jeep like vehicle with a mounted gun, Jet Bikes, Jetpacks and of course, the Starhawk itself which can transform to a walking robot. Did we also mention the games ability to play online with 2-player split-screen mode?
Playing Warhawk was quite possibly some of the most memorable times I’ve had with online multiplayer. With a host of different maps, vehicles, and bases, the game lent itself to unique cirumstances, perfect for those who take their gaming seriously or for those who just want to have some fun. During my time with the Starhawk beta, things were no different as the features a new base building mechanism which allows you to build different base structure almost anywhere on the map. This new game play edition not only helps keeps things fresh and different from its predecessor, but also ensures that no two matches are ever the same. Featuring more weapons than before and even better controlled vehicles, Starhawk is a game I don’t recommend missing.
Alas, I myself will not be able to pickup the game in the near future as my backlog of games includes:
- Resistance 3
- Killzone 3
- God of War 3 (no kidding…)
- Battlefield 3
- Twisted Metal
- Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One
- Motorstorm: Apocalypse
Also, what is it with the number 3? As you can tell, running a website like this isn’t all fun and games. However, rest assured that Dylan and the team at LightBox Interactive have put together a wonderful game, one that I plan on eventually joining in on.
