MMORPG and Square-Enix fans will be happy to know that Final Fantasy XIV: Version 2.0 (PS3) is still in development and will have the advantage of being part of the revamped, re-imagined FFXIV title that gamers wanted when the PC version released some time ago. When it was released almost two years ago, Final Fantasy XIV met with critical and financial troubles. Both critics and gamers alike criticized the game as being bland, unfinished, and “sully to the FF brand.” Thankfully, the developers listened to fan requests; and now Final Fantasy XIV: Version 2.0 (PS3) is starting to look like a great addition to the Final Fantasy franchise. Learn more about Final Fantasy XIV: Version 2.0 after the break. The game will feature amazing character design, environments, graphics, lighting and effects. It will also feature gameplay tweaks, new story elements, and cross-play between PC and PS3 players worldwide, just like Final Fantasy XI was on the PC and PlayStation 2 a decade ago. Naoki Yoshida, Director and Producer of Final Fantasy XIV: Version 2.0 has even said:
“We believe that Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 can be considered the next real Final Fantasy game in the series, And on top of that, there’s our MMORPG community, which will consist of both PC players and also the PS3 players all over the world.”
Of course, the Square-Enix learned a lot from the reception and fan response of the original game and has implemented a number of additional features to increase ease of use for PS3 players. This includes in-game tutorials, a redesigned user interface, and an easy-to-use and organic control scheme that should lower the barrier of entry associated with MMORPG’s of this magnitude. This re-imagined Final Fantasy XIV looks amazing and I can’t wait to give the game a try once it comes out for the PlayStation 3. In the meantime, Sony and Square-Enix plan to bring an “limited time” open beta to the PSN sometime later this year. We’ll give you guys a heads-up once we find out the exact date. So while you wait for the beta and the final release, check out these screens from Final Fantasy XIV: Version 2.0 straight from E3.
