Confirmed: Slant Six Games Not Developing New SOCOM Title

After Sony announced the shut down of Zipper Interactive Studios, the long time developers of the beloved SOCOM franchise which ushered in the PlayStation 2’s multiplayer capabilities, many began to look towards Slant Six Games as the torch carrier of the franchise. The Vancouver based team is no stranger to the franchise themselves, having helmed 3 separate titles; SOCOM: Tactical Strike which was named the best PSP multiplayer experience at E3 2007, and SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3, and  SOCOM: Confrontation for the PS3.

Since Confrontation, Slant Six Games has been busy with Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City which was released back in March 2012 which brought a new take to the long time horror franchise. With no new titles announced from them, many wondered if the team was working with Sony once again to bring SOCOM back to life.

Now, that dream appeared to be shattered, as the game studio has confirmed via their Twitter account that they are not working on any such title, stating that “there is always the possibility that we may work on a SOCOM like title in the future.” This of course goes in line with Sony’s own statement that while the franchise is not dead, they believe is a much needed rest for the series is in order. Below is the full response on the matter from Slant Six Games;

 We want to reach out to the SOCOM community to let you know that we are not working on any new SOCOM projects at this time. Our studio really enjoyed working on the SOCOM franchise, and there is always the possibility that we may work on a SOCOM like title in the future. We love making shooters and we value the passionate and valuable feedback from the SOCOM community. With regards to any official SOCOM projects, all decisions relating to development studios, new titles and any updates to existing titles are all entirely at the discretion of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA).
