Be it if you’re excited for The Last of Us because you believe in Naughty Dog or because you played the demo that’s packed in God of War: Ascension, there is no denying the anticipation built around the game. With the game set to be released in just over a week, June 14th to be exact, the only remaining question was about the games multiplayer. Would it even have one was out of the question as multiplayer is pretty standard in games, no matter the single player core experience of the game. With Santa Monica Studios proving that they could bring God of War to the world of multiplayer in a meaningful way, would Naughty Dog be able to do the same? In short, yes.
The difference between The Last of Us multiplayer versus other games is that much like the core game, multiplayer is built around the idea of survival. There are not massive amounts of ammo laying around and sometimes, you just have to get brutal when it comes to finishing off your opponent.
From Naughty Dog:
In Factions you’ll have to pick a side and roll with the Hunters or the Fireflies. Each player starts with a small clan of survivors that you need to keep alive and grow. There are two modes in which you can accomplish the growth and survival of your Clan. In Supply Raid, you’ll have to scavenge the area and keep your team alive. Your team has a pool of twenty reinforcements. Once the reinforcements have been exhausted, the match will go to sudden death. In Survivors, you’re going to have to be extremely vigilant. There are no respawns. Once you’re gone you’ve been eliminated until the next round. It’s a best of seven rounds in which the first team to win four rounds wins the match.
