When Sony announced the PlayStation 4 way back in Spring, fans quickly fell in love with the system. While offering more freedom than the Xbox (though MS has backtracked on some of its earlier policies), the PS4 also fully embraced the social world we live in. One such measure is the ability for the PlayStation 4 to record and stream your gameplay. At any given moment, the PS4 records 15 minutes of your footage that you can upload and share online with no subscription service required. On the other hand, the Xbox One is only capable of recording 5 minutes of footage and requires a paid Xbox Live membership account in order for you to share your recorded gameplay footage.
Beyond being able to share gameplay footage, both companies announced that their game console would be able to stream live gameplay footage. While Microsoft announced a partnership with the popular Twitch.tv platform where millions of gamers already stream their gameplay footage, Sony announced that they’d partnered with uStream. While uStream offers a similar service to that of Twitch.tv and both platforms would be free for gamers, uStream is more designed at corporations and isn’t as well put together, especially when it comes to content discovery as Twitch.tv. While not a dealbreaker, gamers clamored that Twitch.tv would also become available on the PS4 and after today’s press conference at Gamescom, we can happily announce that the PlayStation 4 will allow streaming through either uStream or Twitch.tv.
