Sony has apologized to Rockstar after its flagship Grand Theft Auto V suffered leaks online originating from a PSN Store error. Some gamers who had already downloaded the locked game decrypted the material and uploaded it the web. Leaked details include the full 42 hour soundtrack, opening theme music, and the popular in-game radio humor. Rockstar’s colossal development has been exposed as they were left to pick up the pieces of the fiasco on the cusp of the highly-anticipated release. It started out as a simple way to ease the expected surge of game downloads come the September 17 launch. European PSN gamers were allowed to download GTA V ahead of the official date, but not play it until launch day. Unfortunately, this led to hacking and now various details of the iconic game have been revealed.
Sony commented:
We sincerely apologize to Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content. GTA V is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year with a very passionate following, and we’re looking forward to a historic launch on September 17.
Sony, again left reeling after hacker entanglement, appears to be downplaying the situation, while reinforcing their support for the actual launch day in three weeks.
Rockstar expressed remorse at seeing the vast effort tossed around freely, thus spoiling unsuspecting fans’ enjoyment of the controversial game. Confronting the leak on their Newswire site:
As you can imagine, we are deeply disappointed by leaks and spoilers being spread in advance of the game’s launch. GTA V represents years of hard work by many people across the world, and we all couldn’t be more excited to finally share it with you properly this September 17.
With only three weeks to go, Rockstar may have a battle on their hands to keep the latest addition to their prized GTA series under wraps.
