One of the big features of the PlayStation 4 will be the ability to link your PlayStation Vita to it for features like Remote Play which allow you to stream games from the powerful home console to the powerful portable console. In fact, if you’re down a controller, the Vita can also act as an additional Dualshock 4. Of course one caveat with the PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U is that they are not backwards compatible. This means that any gamer who wants to play previous generation games will need to keep PS3 around. With the Vita requiring to be registered to a console, would this mean that you have to either choose between a PS4/Vita or PS3/Vita combo? Not so says Sony.
According to Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, while you still need to register the PS Vita with a PS4, it does not have to be your primary console. This means that your Vita can be registered to multiple consoles at a given time. In fact, the PS Vita can be registered to multiple consoles that are not your own, allowing you to take your Vita to a friends house and connect with their PS4 for Remote Play without breaking anything at your home. Shu:
You need to register your PS Vita to [the] PS4 that you want to connect to. It does not have to be your ‘primary console’.

Will you be connecting your Vita to the PS4?
