Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Likely Coming to PS3 and PS4

One of the games that really caught my attention during E3 2013 was Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare from developer Popcap. While very much a Plants vs. Zombies game, this iteration of the game changes thing up by creating a more shooter-based/tower defense game while still incorporating all the things that we love about the series. Unfortunately, this all came with one big caveat. The game would launch exclusively on the Xbox One and Xbox 360. While Popcap danced around the subject at the time, it seemed obvious that this was a timed exclusive and that the game would eventually arrive on other platforms (i.e. PS3 & PS4) but with Microsoft shelling out cash for exclusivity, it’s no surprise that the team only wanted to talk about their current build. Now with the game nearing its Xbox launch, the developers are feeling a bit more candid and willing to talk about the game’s fate on other consoles.

When speaking with Examiner about the games potential PlayStation release, Popcap Games Producer Brian Lindley had this to say:

We haven’t announced any plans yet for any additional platforms outside of the PC, but the way I typically answer that question is we want to get this game in the hands of as many people as possible. Obviously, we’re exclusively first on the Xbox platforms, but I think in the coming months players will see some announcements that will please them depending on their platform of choice.

While still dancing around the subject, it should be quite clear that Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is coming to the PS3 and PS4, just not right away. With PS3 gaining a further lead on the Xbox 360 and the PS4 already ahead of the Xbox One with over one million units, it’s harder than ever for developers to ignore PlayStation.
