E3: 'inFAMOUS: First Light' Puts a Female in Lead

As unfortunate as it is, despite a healthy female audience, not many games star a female as a lead. In the last decade, only a handful of titles like Final Fantasy XIII, Tomb Raider, and Heavenly Sword have featured a female lead while most recently, Naughty Dog made Ellie a star in The Last of Us though she wasn’t the main star of the game either. Ellie does however play a very important part in the story and the DLC that would follow has her as the lead. Now Sucker Punch is taking a cue from Naughty Dog by featuring a female as lead in the world of inFamous: Second Son with a new twist.

inFamous: First Light is an all new DLC for the PlayStation 4 exclusive title that places Fetch as the lead. Players were previously introduced to Fetch in inFamous: Second Son, but she was merely a supporting character. In First Light, Fetch is the main star as the story follows her tale. What’s even more interesting is how Sucker Punch is treating this title. While DLC in the past has been tied to a game, thus requiring you to own the original title that it’s based on, inFamous: First Light can be purchased without the original game.

The ability to purchase First Light without the original title and including a female as the lead sound like two bold decisions by the team at Sucker Punch that I hope are rewarded by gamers.
