While E3 2014 was packed full of games for next-gen consoles which included a healthy mix of new IP and returning franchises like Uncharted, Mirror’s Edge, LittleBigPlanet, and Far Cry, some old favorites like Prince of Persia and Beyond Good & Evil were nowhere to be found. Though there’d been whispers about each game leading up to E3 about each game, nothing materialized at the world’s biggest gaming event and for good reason.
Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, says he’s fully interested in bringing each franchise to next-gen consoles, but they’ve yet to come up with a concept that delivers. His full quote, after the jump.
We are not going to stop those properties. We are going to work on them. The teams are really looking at what we can come with. I think you will really like what you see in the future. It could take some time to make sure we are really delivering what we want.
From his quote, there is both good news and bad for gamers. The bad being that we’re likely not going to see the return of Prince of Persia or Beyond Good & Evil anytime soon. But that bad news is also the good news. Instead of just releasing another entry in the series, Ubisoft wants to find something worth while which is always a good thing. While next-gen games can always provide a more luscious world, gamers and the game truly benefit when developers are able to harness the additional powers of the new consoles to better serve the game, be it in new social aspects, game physics, or the freedom to tell the story in ways that were previously limited.
