Please be excited for the Square Enix Tokaigi stage event on January 31. No really, you might want to be. Earlier this week, Square Enix teased a top secret title which by the looks of it is a PS4 exclusive. ‘Tokaigi: Game Party Japan’ nearest I can tell is a two day conference similar PAX. The conference will host several live tournaments, stage events, cosplayers, and a show floor. This year it will be held at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall. Simply titled Project Code Z, the teaser site features a simple black background and shifting logo along with a reveal date and a Twitter account. Set to be revealed during their stage event, one wonders what type of game it will be.
The obvious would be some sort of zombie game – potentially even an MMO. On the other hand, the Twitter account could offer a small hint: @sqex_msz.
It was cold outside and so was my mind…
Then again, they really could just be messing with people’s imaginations. Personally though, I hope that it’s not just another zombie game. With Dying Light, H1Z1, DayZ, and Dead Island 2 coming out later this year, genre saturation may be reaching a critical level and sales may fall below Square Enix’s expectations. My hope is that we get something like the tech demo shown during the PS4’s reveal event. The event will be live streamed on NicoNico this weekend along with other Square Enix announcements like School of Ragnarok. Besides Square Enix, Sony, and other major Japanese publishers will also be there. Interestingly enough, while digging through the Tokaigi website researching for this article, I came across Sony’s schedule and on day 2’s closing, there was this listing: “15:45 ” Min GOL “Series” ICO,” “mosquito” (guest: Yasuhide Kobayashi).” Yasuhide was an executive producer on Ico, and Shadow of the Colossus.
Discuss:
What do you think Project Code Z will be and do you think Sony will have a secret project under their sleeve?
