Earlier today, Sony unveiled their latest Alpha mirrorless camera, the A7S II. Building on the legacy of the A7 II, the Sony A7S II offers a similar 409,600 max ISO setting and 12-megapixel sensor – but the similarities end there with a host of new improvements that are designed to give you crisper photos and videos.

Details after the jump.

While megapixel count and ISO sensitivity has remained the same, the Sony A7S II is an entirely new camera from Sony and it starts with video. This time around, you can shoot full HD 1080p video at 120fps with a full-frame readout. According to Sony, this is a first for their A7 series.

Recording in 4K is also a lot easier this time around (with its predecessor requiring an external recorder for 4K videos) with an internal recorder (3,840 x 2,160) at 24 or 30fps. Utilizing the full-frame sensor also allows for no pixel binning at both 4K and 1080p resolutions. Using Sony’s new shooting mode called S-Log3 allows for 14-stops of dynamic range, placing the A7S II on par with cinema cameras like the Arri Amira.

Keep in mind that you’ll need a UHC Class 3 SD memory card or higher as 4K and 1080p video are captured in Sony’s XAVC format at up to 100Mbps. Then there are all the goodies for photographers. Offered in other Sony Alpha cameras, a 5-axis stabilization promises to take the jitter and shakiness out of your photos, be it during daytime or night.

Thanks to a new a new 169 AF points autofocus system, focusing on just the right spot is easier than even and far more accurate. With both the autofocus and stabilization built in, you be able to confidently use any lens you’d like as the body handles the two features. Sony is also making taking and viewing photos easier with  a new OLED electronic viewfinder with 0.78x magnification.

The Sony A7S II will be available in November in Europe for €3,400. No word yet on availability or pricing for North America.
