Future Update Will Fix Camera & GPS Issues on Sony Xperia M2

Updates both giveth and taketh away. While designed to bring new features and address some old ones along the way, they tend to have unforeseen complications that can only be realized when released into the world where thousands and thousands of devices are running them.

The Sony Xperia M2 is no stranger to this, having seen its camera quality and GPS reliability take a hit with Android Lolliipop. Luckily Sony is aware of the issue.

From Sony:

I’ve just recieved more information about the change that’s been made regarding the camera:

With the latest Lollipop software, 18.6.A.0.175, the sharpness has been increased which makes the picture more clear and sharp when displayed on the phone or a PC with fitting to the screen size. The trade-off of increased sharpness is losing details, the pixel details are sacrificed when zooming in. But this will not be seen during normal display with screen size, only when users zoom in to more than actual picture size. We have evaluated this and came to the decision that this can benefit most of users when viewing photos with Xperia M2 / M2 Aqua.

The good news for Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua is that Sony is aware of the problem and is looking to fix things via a future software update. The problem is that no timeframe has been given, meaning it could be months before the problem is address. Then again, it could be weeks.

Just earlier this month, it became known that the Sony A7R II was plagued with a black spot problem due to a faulty algorithm. While many of us though a fix would be weeks, if not months in the making, Sony proved us all wrong by having an update within a weeks time.
