Here is a very interesting statistic for you. According to Sugiyama Pok Hong, general manager of Sony Mobile Japanese market, there are 60 million smartphone users in Japan with 12 million of them being Xperia. This translates to one in every five smartphone owners in Japan using an Xperia phone. On the other hand, can you guess which smartphone has the highest market share in Japan?
That honor goes to the iPhone which has a total of 28 million users in Japan. That means that one out of every two smartphone users in the country is using an iPhone. Sugiyama gave an analogy though I don’t believe Google translate really got it right or perhaps it’s an analogy I’m not familiar with.
iPhone is like a cat with a spoon on the road home as common
That aside, Japan, a country that’s traditionally heavily favored national brands as can be seen in the case of abysmal Xbox One sales is getting trounced by Apple. Reason one is the strong branding that Apple enjoys. Reason number is the price depiction you see above. Simple as those two. You know Sony has a long way to go towards reestablishing their mobile business when they’re so far behind on their own home turf.

Is the iPhone cheaper than Xperia phones where you live?
