The Sony Xperia X Dual and Xperia XA Dual are coming to India, but they won’t be cheap.
Sony Mobile India has announced pricing of the Xperia X Dual and Xperia XA Dual, but like everywhere else, they don’t come cheap. The Xperia X Dual has a recommended price of Rs. 48,990 (£498, €655, $730), whilst the Xperia XA Dual has a recommended price of Rs. 20,990 (£214, €281, $313). The Xperia X Dual will be available from 7 June, whilst the Xperia XA Dual will be available towards the end of June.
Luckily, Sony is at least enticing users with some pre-order goodies though I’m not sure how long that goodwill will last before the cost sets in.
Pre-orders for the Xperia X Dual are open through Amazon.in, with all four colours of the handset offered (Graphite Black, White, Lime Gold and Rose Gold) for Rs. 46,990. Sony is throwing in the Sony SBH70 Stereo Bluetooth Headset free of charge for pre-orders (up until 6 June 2016) to make that high price easier to swallow. A Sony Quick Charger will also be bundled. Xperia XA Dual pre-orders are yet to open, but should do so shortly.
For comparison, the flagship iPhone 6s costs Rs. 45,888 while iPhone SE (with nearly all the internals of iPhone 6s) in a 4-inch form factor is priced at Rs. 33,999.
On the Samsung front:
- Galaxy S7 – Rs. 46,999
- Galaxy S7 Edge – Rs. 56,899.
A Rs. 46,990 price tag for the Xperia X seems a bit outrageous and more appropriate for the Xperia X Performance which of course is not being released in India. Would have hated to see the price on that. If there is any consolation, it’s that at least the Xperia XA will go for Rs. 20,990 which is far more reasonable.
Discuss:
Do you think Sony can gain any traction with this pricing in India?
