In various pieces throughout the past week, I’ve written about how Sony Mobile’s next two quarters, and how well Xperia XZ is received by consumers during that period, will turn out to be a pivotal moment for the future of Sony’s mobile efforts. Even if sales results are less than stellar, Xperia phones won’t come to a halt overnight as is evident by the above two models. In fact I’d be shocked if Sony wasn’t deep in R&D of phones that we’ll see in fall 2017 but before their arrival, we’ll get the G3112 and G3121.
Following previous model numbers, the ‘G’ number signifies the 2017 range – much like the ‘F’ model numbers were the 2016 range, ‘E’ models were the 2015 range and so on.
Little can be gleaned from the model numbers (G3112 and G3121) themselves, as Sony doesn’t always follow the same pattern. But this year, the F31XX was the Xperia XA. So we could be seeing a mid-range 2017 equivalent with the G31XX. Time will tell, but we’ll bring you more news as we have it.
Those eager to learn about these phones will have to wait a while longer as it’s highly unlikely that they’ll be unveiled at CES 2017 in January. Instead, MWC 2017, which takes place in late February, is a more likely time period for Sony to unveil them though I’m sure by then, we’ll have plenty of leaks on our hands.

Do you want Sony to keep focusing on premium phones or would you like their next round of phones to be successors to the Xperia C and M line?
