PlayStation VR is fine – a relatively cheap gateway to the world of virtual reality with some unique games and content. Some are more quirky while others are more thorough like Battlezone and Farpoint, but what’s been missing is a true AAA, high profile game. God of War in VR could solve that. Kevin Joyce from VR focus:
There’s been a number of projects brought to [Sony] Santa Monica, but many of them have just been prototypes from game jams. [sic]
[Sony] Santa Monica are working on something big. It’s a full-blown 2nd wave title for [PlayStation VR]. It’ll be revealed soon and I know it’ll go well with the core PlayStation audience, but I can’t say any more than that!
A lot is unknown at this point but many are speculating the game to be God of War. The truth is that we’ve seen very little from God of War so VR could always be in the mix but I’m not convinced of that. VR isn’t the type of thing that you can slap on top of a game and have it work. Instead, a game needs to be fundamentally designed from the ground up around virtual reality which requires completely different mechanics.
Perhaps Santa Monica Studios is working on a GoW VR title, but it’s separate from the PS4 game – a side experience so to speak. Or maybe they’re working on an entirely different PSVR game and everyone’s latching onto the wrong fact. Either way, if it’s to be revealed soon, we’ll learn about it at E3 which is just weeks away now.
What major franchise do you think could translate well into the realm of VR?
