Sony Partners with UEFA to Promote Xperia Brand

Sony_Xperia_UEFA_Marketing_1

I’ve discussed to death the lack of marketing from Sony and have always said that “Sony is one good marketing campaign away from success,” something that I still stand by. Though Sony software continues to linger behind its competitors in mobile and electronics, its hardware continues to be one of the best. This is especially apparent in their 2015 fleet of 4K televisions, receivers, and sound bars.

With mobile, Sony is once again dipping its toes in mass marketing by partnering with UEFA through their 2017/2018 season. Depending on the success, Sony can extend their partnership with the mega soccer football league even further. While not popular in the States, the UEFA championship outside of the World Cup is one of the most watched sporting events with millions tuning in and Sony is taking advantage of that by plastering their name and the Xperia brand all over it.

This is a welcome change and a good move for Sony. Popular throughout the world, UEFA is most popular in Europe (where its held) which also happens to be Sony Mobiles strongest territory. This makes for a great match but perhaps Sony is missing the point.

Sony Xperia Z5 & Xperia Z5 Compact to Not Feature USB Type-C?

Sony_Xperia_Z5_USB_Type-C

Just yesterday, we talked about the possibility of a 4K display on Sony’s upcoming flagship Xperia Z5 models. According to that rumor, Sony would utilize the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 (MSM8944) chipset to power its 4K display with 2160 x 3840 resolution. Now comes rumors of what won’t be making it into the Xperia Z5; USB Type-C.

Lets talk after the jump about what exactly USB Type-C.

Sony Thinks Its Best You Don’t Upgrade Your VAIO to Windows 10

Sony_VAIO_Windows_10

Think Sony is done with VAIO and that it’s dead? Well, as it turns out, no to the first part and yes to the second part – but let’s start from the beginning. Sony shuttered VAIO, their PC division in February 2014, only to have the company be reborn again in August of that year. However, that VAIO is an independently-run company with reach only in Japan. The news about VAIO today has nothing to do with that VAIO and everything to do with the VAIO of Sony which is still legally responsible for the models it sold.

As it turns out, if you own a Sony VAIO, you may want to hold off on upgrading to Windows 10. Details after the jump.

Next Sony Xperia Flagship to Feature a 4K Display?

Sony_Xperia_Z5_4K_Display

A rumor that’s been going around is that the next Sony flagship smartphone (which we’ll call the Xperia Z5 for the sake of this article) will feature a 4K display. Already the Sony E68XX (E6833, E6853 E6883) model has shown up on different benchmark tests out there, indicating new devices are on the way, though its unclear if it will be in late 2015 or early 2016.

If true, the Xperia Z5, which is believed to come in multiple sizes, including a 6-inch model if not larger, will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 (MSM8944) chipset to power its 4K display with a mind bending 2160 x 3840 resolution. Yea, let’s definitely talk after the jump.

Sony Xperia C5 Ultra & Xperia M5 Get Priced and Dated for Taiwan

Sony_Xperia_C5_Ultra_And_Xperia_M5_Taiwain_02

If handled properly, the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 could be two hot selling devices for Sony. Each phone shares some similar components like a fantastic 13-megapixel front-facing camera, designed to give you a better ‘selfie’ than you thought possible from that camera. Yet each phone has its own unique traits like the 6-inch display on the C5 Ultra (versus the 5-inch of the Xperia M5). But bigger doesn’t mean better as the Xperia M5 offers 3GB RAM and is more durable with a IP65/68 water- and dust-resistance design.

If you want to know more about the two smartphones, take a look at our initial coverage. Having already been available for pre-order in Hong Kong, Sony has now turned its eyes towards Taiwan where the two phones just received a price and release date.

Verizon Prepares for Sony Xperia Z4v By Discontinuing Xperia Z3v

Say goodbye to the Sony Xperia Z3v (D6708) on Verizon. As of today, the phone has been discontinued by Big Red as it no longer shows up on their website.

However, fear not as this is actually good news.

Sony’s newest mid-range smartphone, with a 13-megapixel front-facing camera and 21.5-megapixel rear-facing camera with 4K video, is getting its first case. Dubbed the SCR48 Style Cover Stand (Sony has always been known to be clever and short with their naming), this latest official case from Sony goes beyond just protecting the Xperia M5 and has a few neat tricks built in, like sleep/wake mode.
