Sony_Xperia_Z4_Tablet_Month_Delay

At the beginning of the month, we reported that Sony would be delaying the Xperia Z4 Tablet by one week in the UK. Originally, Sony had hoped to get the Xperia Z4 Tablet in the hands of those who had pre-ordered it by the end of May, but the delay meant that June 5th would be the new arrival date. With June 5th having come and gone, Sony has pushed back the arrival date to June 29th for anybody who pre-orders the powerful tablet.

2015 Mostly a ‘Transformation’ Year for Sony Mobile; 2016 Will Offer More ‘Bold’

Sony_Mobile_4_Steps

Despite smartphones making up a bulk of their sales,  the mobile division of Sony has been stalled for the past two years where they’ve retreat in total sales compared to years past. Announcing a new flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z3+ (Xperia Z4 in Japan) and tablet, the Xperia Z4 Tablet, Sony is betting on premium devices to help get back on track.

Still, a handful of products short of pulling in sales numbers like Apple (for those playing at home, with the launch of iPhone 6 & iPhone 6+, Apple sold 75 million units in one quarter where Sony sold across its many different devices just shy of 40 million units in one year) won’t be able to turn Sony around and they know this. Instead the company will treat 2015 as mostly a “transformation” year with hopes that 2016 will finally bring in the elusive profits they so desperately need.

Sony Mobile – Smartphones Make Up Bulk of Sales; Tablets & Wearables Only a Small Portion

Sony_Mobile_Product_Sales_Chart

It’s not breaking news that Sony Mobile has been struggling. Once destined to be one of the three pillars of Sony, the ever important mobile division has instead been a cause for financial loss at Sony. In just the past two years, not only has Sony Mobile not been able to move forward and grow, but it has also retreated and lost ground.

More on this after the jump, including how Sony can recapture the smartphone market and make ways with their wearables.

Meet the Sony SCR30 Style Cover Window for Xperia Z3+ & Xperia Z4

Sony_SCR30_02

Sony knows that in order to have a product that’s compelling to consumers, you also need to have a robust ecosystem that surrounds it. For example, alongside the Xperia Z4 Tablet, Sony also unveiled the BKB50 Bluetooth keyboard which, thanks to its dock-like nature, turns the powerful tablet into a notebook of sorts. For phones, things like keyboards are a little less important and even frankly unnecessary, but what do most smartphone owners purchase alongside their new device? A case, of course, and Sony will be launching their new SCR30 Style Cover Window for the Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4.

After the jump, all the details on the Sony SCR30 Style Cover Window.

Sony Mobile to ‘Drastically’ Downsize in China

Sony_Mobile_ChinaDespite purchasing Ericsson and going at it alone which has resulted in some beautiful products, Sony Mobile has struggled to gain much traction globally. In the last two years alone, Sony Mobile has seen their year-over-year sales decline with Apple dominating the premium market and handset makers from China like Xiaomi and Huawei eating into the low-end market. With an inability to compete in either market, Sony has been squeezed in a middle ground that’s proving hard for them to sustain. With a focus on premium products, Sony could at least count on greater profit margins on each unit sold where the entry market would provide them with increased revenue.

No country better represents this than China where the middle class is booming with a population of over 300 million who can afford premium products and even more who can afford an entry class device. Unfortunately for Sony, they’ve been unable to capitalize on it and they are signaling a significant downsizing from the country.

Sony_Xperia_Z3+_Copper_Hero

Remember how Sony did that weird thing where they announced the Xperia Z4 but it was exclusive to Japan? Well now Sony is planning to bring their latest flagship smartphone globally and under a new name. Officially called the Sony Xperia Z3+, the phone is every inch the Xperia Z4 that’s being released in Japan but just under a new name. While to the untrained eye, the Xperia Z3+ (E6553) will appear nearly identical to the Z3, it will most certainly feel different, thanks to a slimmer (6.9mm vs 7.3mm) and lighter (144g vs 152g) profile. But cosmetics aren’t the only difference between the outgoing model and the new one.
