The Sony Xperia Z3 hasn’t been much of a secret. Leaks having been appearing all over these past few months and so a reveal at Sony’s IFA 2014 keynote was a sure thing. The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact on the other hand has been more elusive. While we’ve seen schematics of the device and some low quality photos, we’ve never been able to confirm the devices true existence. Now, with less than 24 hours before Sony’s keynote, a gorgeous photo revealing the Xperia Z3 Compact has leaked. To make things better, it looks like Sony will be offering the smaller handset in mint, black, orange, and white.

Over a year ago, Sony released the QX10 and QX100 attachable smartphone lenses. Compatible with iOS and Android devices, the mountable lenses would allow you to improve photos taken on your device by utilizing into their higher megapixel sensor and zoom lens. We already believe that Sony will announce the QX30 tomorrow at IFA 2014 with 30X optical zoom but now even a juicer product has leaked, the Sony ILCE-QX1 attachable smartphone lens with an E-mount lens.
Sony fans in the United States for years have been left in the dark as the Japanese giant continues its aggressive plan of releasing a new flagship phone every 6 months. When we do get products, they tend to be many months behind Europe and Asia where Sony’s mobile efforts enjoy much more support and acceptance. All of this is likely to change in late 2014 when it’s believed Sprint will carry Sony smartphones for the first time.
You hear that? That’s the sound of thousands of Sony Xperia Z owners rejoicing over the semi-official confirmation that the Xperia Z will be gaining Android 4.4.4. Just yesterday, we revealed that Sony would be ending software support for the Xperia T, TX, and V in order to focus on newer products. Despite those phones being on Android 4.1, Sony plans to send them off into the sunset with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean later this year. It remains unclear how much further Sony will support the Xperia Z which was released 2 years ago but we at least now know it will gain Android 4.4.4. The best part of this reveal is that other Xperia devices may also be gaining the latest Android build as well. Let’s talk after the jump.
The Sony Xperia T, TX, and V currently enjoy the outdated Android 4.1 Jelly Bean that was released in early 2013. Since that time, Sony has had minor updates for the mid-range smartphones with no major releases. All of that is set to change later this year when Sony will bring Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to the Xperia T, TX, and V. This also means that these will be the final software and firmware updates these three smartphones will receive as Sony shifts its focus to its newer lineups like the upcoming Xperia Z3. As Peter Quill, aka Star Lord, put it: “Something good, something bad? Bit of both?”
Sony hasn’t been having much luck keeping their next flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z3, a secret. Over the past month, we’ve seen plenty of leaks for the device. With IFA 2014 set to take next week where it’s believed Sony will unveil the Xperia Z3, the leaks are only getting bolder. After the jump, we’ve got a series of photos from what looks to be the finalized model that will make it into consumer hands. After the jump, lots of juicy pictures await you.
The Sony Xperia M2 Aqua was officially revealed yesterday and earlier today, we provided you with a list of specs you can expect to find in the waterproof smartphone when it launches this fall. Despite its mid-range status, the Xperia M2 Aqua has a lot going for it with a beefy quad-core processor, respectable 8-megapixel camera (remember that the iPhone 5S also has a 8-megapixel camera and that pixels are not everything) on a large 4.8-inch display that can withstand a drop in the toilet or a dunk in the pool. To help drive its waterproof design home, Sony has created the above promo video.
After the jump, another video awaits you which is part spec sheet and part video walkthrough of the Xperia M2 Aqua.
The Sony Xperia M2 Aqua was officially announced by Sony yesterday. Though it was leaked months ago, its nice to finally see the product materialize and be released this Fall. While designed as a mid-range Android smartphone, the Xperia M2 Aqua still packs quite a punch with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.2 GHz quad core processor with 1GB RAM and offers plenty to see with its 4.8-inch (540×960) display. So what else can we expect from this waterproof phone that’s capable of staying submerged in depths of 1.5 meters for up to half an hour?
I should point out that I realize how large the above promo picture for the M2 Aqua is but it’s just such a cool shot that needed to be displayed in all of its glory. After the jump, we have the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua specs.
You see the image above? Yea, that’s from the instructions booklet for the Sony Bluetooth Speaker BSC10. Notice the devices it’s compatible with like the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact? For those playing at home, that tablet has yet to be announced. We’d previously revealed tidbits of information that had leaked about a new Sony tablet (SGP621) and speculated that in fact it might be a new compact design. With IFA 2014 right around the corner, we’d expected and still believe that Sony will unveil their next tablets. Now, the above leak all but confirms that we will in fact be getting two new tablets from Sony in the near future.
After the jump, the full image and our thoughts on the naming scheme.
Leaked for many months, the mid-range Sony Xperia M2 Aqua has officially been announced. As expected, the Xperia M2 Aqua features all the same specs from the Xperia M2, their midrange Android smartphone with one exception, waterproofing. Specifically, the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua offers IP65/68 waterproofing which beats their current flagship Xperia Z2 (IP58). Thanks to the waterproof design, the Xperia M2 Aqua can sit in depths of 1.5 meters for up to half an hour without any problems, perfect for that accidental slip into the toilet or jump into the pool. (For those playing at home and living in California, I also hope Sony offers a dirt proof version of this in the near future as I’m not sure how much water will be left here soon. #DroughtIsForReal)
Lets talk more details after the jump.
During IFA 2013, Sony introduced the first main stream attachable smartphone lens. The QX10 and QX100 allows iOS and Android users to latch on an attachable lens to their smartphone (or tablet) and gain a higher megapixel camera with a larger sensor. With Sony taking the stage on Wednesday, September 3rd at the 2014 IFA, it’s believed that the company will once again unveil another set of QX lenses with a very worth improvement.
Though Sony might be doing its best to not let the cat out of the bag in regards to their next Android endeavor, the leaks continue. We already know quite a bit about the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact (alongside a mystery tablet). Now the latest leaks come in the form of product schematics that place the two unannounced devices next to each other. Besides learning about what makes the two phones different from each other, we can also now more accurately report on their advancements, compared to Sony’s current product line. After the jump, we talk details.
If the name scheming trend from Sony continues (and we don’t have any reason to believe that it will be different), the successor the Xperia Z2 Tablet will likely be the Xperia Xperia Z3 Tablet. Unlike flagship smartphones from Sony which are released roughly every 6 months, Sony is taking a more traditional one year cycle with each tablet it brings to the market. This puts the most recent leak of a Sony SGP621 tablet in direct contrast with previous product cycles which saw the public unveiling of the Xperia Z2 Tablet in February. That is, unless this is a completely different type of tablet.
Sony has yet to officially announce the Xperia Z3 and we’ve already learned a lot about the next phone, thanks to the FCC and other leaks which have revealed the flagship smartphones specs. If these leaks hold true, we now know the phone that will follow up the Xperia Z3, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. Like the Xperia Z1 Compact, the Xperia Z3 Compact packs many of the features that make up the Xperia Z3 in a smaller size. That means a smaller screen size of 4.6-inch versus the Z3’s rumored 5.2-inch display. What else can we expect?
After the jump, we have far more revealing pictures and specs.
