Confirmed: DriveClub Delayed Until 2014, New PS+ Bonuses Announced for PS4

Driveclub-Gamescom-Promo1-440x270

This morning on the PlayStation Blog, Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the rumors and our worst fears: #DRIVECLUB has been delayed until 2014, and will no longer be a PlayStation 4 launch title. According to Yoshida, “the team [at Evolution Studios] requires more time in order to deliver on their vision” though he remains confident that “the game will surpass your expectations.”

Sony Worldwide Studios’ President did confirm that DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition will still be coming to members of the subscription service upon the game’s release, but there’s no word on when exactly that will be other than “early 2014.” Yoshida did go on to detail what, in addition to Housemarque’s Resogun, PlayStation Plus members will be receiving on Day One following DriveClub‘s unfortunate absence.

Rumor: Is DriveClub the Next Next-Gen Launch Title to be Delayed?

driveclub_lower_marq

It began, as wildfires often do, with a small spark. A website, unknown to both heavyweight video game writers and folks like myself, creating major waves in the next-gen rumor community. As a site that deals in rumors and speculation, we of course found it interesting–and troubling, for PlayStation–when UK-based website The Same Coin reported early Wednesday morning that #DRIVECLUB, Evolution Studios’ launch day simulation racing title (heretofore referred to minus the hashtag shouting), would be delayed until 2014.

Want to Play the PlayStation 4 Right Now? Find Out Where!

PS4

Up until now, the only places you could get your hands on a DualShock 4 and experience the PlayStation 4’s games were at conventions like PAX, Gamescom, Eurogamer Expo, and Tokyo Game Show. While those who attended were no doubt pleased to be among the few to delve into the next generation of Sony gaming, the public at large hasn’t been able to experience just what “Greatness Awaits” really means…

Until today.

Flower, flOw, Sound Shapes & Escape Plan Coming to PS4

Flower on PS4

If you’re like me, you may have been a little disappointed yesterday to learn that Watch_Dogs would be delayed until Q1 of Ubisoft’s 2014 fiscal year. What had been planned as a launch title now finds itself slated for, at the earliest, an April release. What, then, would replace that hole in the PlayStation 4’s launch day lineup? Well, how about four critically acclaimed PS3 and Vita titles optimized for the new hardware–and completely free if you’ve already purchased them digitally on those earlier systems?

The Last Guardian Is Being “Re-Engineered”

The Last Guardian

Much like Duke Nukem Forever become an industry joke and a vaporware for a long time, The Last Guardian is becoming much the same. While the game was announced many years ago, it’s continued to miss deadlines with only vague wording from those involved with it on where the project is. While some in Sony’s own camp like Jack Tretton believe the project had been put on hiatus, others are quick to point out that there is still a small team working away on the title which might be the best description for the status of the game. In fact, last we’d heard from Ueda, the games original creator who is no longer directly involved with the game and is merely overseeing it as a consultant said that the title is still under development and not cancelled or in hiatus. Ueda went on to say:

SCE Japan Studio, who’s working on The Last Guardian, also has titles like Puppeteer and Knack, and those are only the ones currently announced. Those are taking priority right now

This of course makes sense, seeing how Puppeteer has in the last month been released on the PS3 to great reviews and Knack will soon follow with the PS4 launch. But now the outspoken Shuhei Yoshida has some new details to reveal about the project which may tie together all the different news pieces we’ve heard about the title.

What Happens When You Pause a PS4 Game Download?

Official PS4_02

One of the great features about the PS4 will be the ability to play a game like Killzone: Shadow Fall while still downloading the title. The move is meant to even the playing field for those who wish to download a digital copy of a game, versus purchasing it on Blu-ray. Much like how Netflix or your Apple TV might cue up a movie, depending on your download speed, the PS4 will allow you to download a game and soon after, begin to play it without needing to finish the download in full. This will also be a huge asset to this generation as titles are expected to take up folds more hard drive space. But what happens if you internet gives out or you pause the download mid game play? SCE Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida revealed that and a few more tidbits on Twitter.

Mae West (Meryl) Doesn’t Understand Why David Hayter Was Replaced by Kiefer Sutherland

MGS_Mae_West_Meryl_Silverburgh

There has been a lot of fan uproar with the next installment of Metal Gear from Hideo Kojima. In a shocking move, the brilliant game director decided to replace long time Snake voice actor David Hayter with Kiefer Sutherland in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Hayter, who has whole heartily embraced the fictional character since the rebirth of the franchise on the PS2, is seen by many fans as the spirit of the series. Rough voice and all, Hayter has brought a level of depth and emotion to the now beloved character and the decision to replace him seems odd, especially when the rest of the cast is set to reprise their roles. Those who are baffled by this include Mae West, better known as Meryl Silverburgh.
