Second Look: ‘Tiny Brains’ Won’t Hit PS4 Launch, Still is Adorable, Quirky Fun

Tiny Brains

No one was more disappointed than I was when the official PS4 FAQ on the PlayStation Blog was updated last week to omit Tiny Brains, from developer Spearhead Montreal, from the launch day lineup in North America. Back at PAX, I fell in love with the cute, curious co-op puzzle game from a team of former-AAA game designers, and it was one of my most anticipated games to download come November 15. Sadly, we’ll have to wait just a bit longer: Tiny Brains will be coming out November 26. Only 11 days separate your brand new consoles from a game I enjoyed so much, I wanted to go back for more.

So I did, when Spearhead and TriplePoint Games invited press to a preview event in San Francisco just a few weeks back. One of the reasons for the delay of Tiny Brains is that Spearhead is nailing down the online portion of the game, according to Polygon’s conversation with the team’s co-founder Atul Nath Mehra. While we didn’t test the online functionality at our preview event, co-founder and game director Malik Boukhira did lead us through an updated version of the playable PAX demo, along with a few other neat standouts that hadn’t been shown just yet.

Multiple PS Vitas Can Be Registered to a PS4

PS4 to PS Vita Remote PlayOne of the big features of the PlayStation 4 will be the ability to link your PlayStation Vita to it for features like Remote Play which allow you to stream games from the powerful home console to the powerful portable console. In fact, if you’re down a controller, the Vita can also act as an additional Dualshock 4. Of course one caveat with the PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U is that they are not backwards compatible. This means that any gamer who wants to play previous generation games will need to keep PS3 around. With the Vita requiring to be registered to a console, would this mean that you have to either choose between a PS4/Vita or PS3/Vita combo? Not so says Sony.

PS3 Crosses 80 Million Sold Mark

ps3-160gb

It’s a bit crazy to think about but the PlayStation 3 has now been out for 7 years. What makes this more amazing is the fact that, despite the console’s age, Sony and its first party developers continue to pump out more from the console which could be seen this year in exclusives like The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, and the upcoming Gran Turimso 6. To put things into perspective, the PlayStation launched one year after the Xbox 360 and has continued to cost more the entire time, yet the PS3 is now ahead of the 360 by 1.5 million units. This hasn’t happened by accident and is instead a testament to Sony and the team at PlayStation that have continued to support the console and pump out new content. Despite the PS4 launching in little over a week’s time, gamers should feel good knowing that the PS3 is anything but done.

You Can Now Use PayPal on PSN for Purchases

PS3_PSN_PayPal

We all like convenience because, well, it makes our life more convenient. Companies also like to offer convenient ways for their customers to shop because it likely means that they will shop more. With that, Sony has announced that, as of today, you can directly connect your PayPal account to your SEN (Sony Entertainment Network) wallet and use that as a method of purchasing on the PlayStation 3.

Gaming With Heather: ‘Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus’ Demo

 GWHRNC
I had the opportunity to attend The Escapist Expo in Durham, North Carolina this year. It was my first year attending so I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Expo or even what we would see. Insomniac Games was a sponsor of the convention and I was curious to see what kind of presence they would have since they have a studio located in Durham. If you are not familiar with Insomniac Games, the studio has produced some amazing PlayStation franchises like Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, and the original Spyro the Dragon. To my surprise, the studio had a large booth dedicated to their upcoming title Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus. At the booth they had several stations where you could play a  demo of Into the Nexus. Being a fan of the series, I jumped at the opportunity to play the game before it is released and I even scored a really cool poster for completing the demo.

Everything I’ve heard about Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus mentions the game’s return to the classic gameplay that Ratchet & Clank fans know and love. It would seem that they pulled elements from previous games and the result is a ver story driven adventure. It is still packed with Into the Nexus is also packed with some new weapons, like the Winterizer, and some fantastic Clank specific trips into The Netherverse.

Flower, flOw, Sound Shapes & Escape Plan Coming to PS4

Flower on PS4

If you’re like me, you may have been a little disappointed yesterday to learn that Watch_Dogs would be delayed until Q1 of Ubisoft’s 2014 fiscal year. What had been planned as a launch title now finds itself slated for, at the earliest, an April release. What, then, would replace that hole in the PlayStation 4’s launch day lineup? Well, how about four critically acclaimed PS3 and Vita titles optimized for the new hardware–and completely free if you’ve already purchased them digitally on those earlier systems?

The Last Guardian Is Being “Re-Engineered”

The Last Guardian

Much like Duke Nukem Forever become an industry joke and a vaporware for a long time, The Last Guardian is becoming much the same. While the game was announced many years ago, it’s continued to miss deadlines with only vague wording from those involved with it on where the project is. While some in Sony’s own camp like Jack Tretton believe the project had been put on hiatus, others are quick to point out that there is still a small team working away on the title which might be the best description for the status of the game. In fact, last we’d heard from Ueda, the games original creator who is no longer directly involved with the game and is merely overseeing it as a consultant said that the title is still under development and not cancelled or in hiatus. Ueda went on to say:

SCE Japan Studio, who’s working on The Last Guardian, also has titles like Puppeteer and Knack, and those are only the ones currently announced. Those are taking priority right now

This of course makes sense, seeing how Puppeteer has in the last month been released on the PS3 to great reviews and Knack will soon follow with the PS4 launch. But now the outspoken Shuhei Yoshida has some new details to reveal about the project which may tie together all the different news pieces we’ve heard about the title.
