Why ‘The Rock’ is the Perfect Actor to Play Kratos in a ‘God of War’ Movie

God_Of_War_Movie_The_Rock_2

Jonathan York, the self proclaimed right hand of Sony Santa Monica, tweeted the above picture which inspired this entire post. Over the last five years, we’ve seen Hollywood’s take at what a God of War movie could be like. If you don’t know what I’m referring to, then you need to purchase Clash of the Titans and more importantly, Wrath of the Titans on Blu-ray and just sit back and enjoy. After you’re done with it, tell me that that’s not how a God of War movie could/would be like. I’m personally a fan of the two movies and despite what you may think of them, it proves that thematically and technically, a God of War movie is now 100% plausible.

Much like the games, a GoW movie offers a unique and untapped world to viewers with a very different ‘hero’ which is a nice change of pace for gamers and moviegoers alike. So if a movie were to happen, who would you want to play the lead antagonist, Kratos?

LITERAL God of War: Ascension Trailer – Hilarity Ensues

LITERAL God of War: Ascension Trailer

If you didn’t know, a new God of War game is out this week and once again follows the story of Kratos. Much more than before, Sony Santa Monica has placed an emotional touch to the story of Kratos and the burden of the accidental death of his wife and daughter by his own hands. Leave it to the internet and more specially, Toby from Tobuscus, to have a slightly different take on the trailer. If you’ve got two minutes, then you’re in for a treat.

Will You Be Purchasing God of War: Ascension? [Poll]

God of War: Ascension

March 12th will be an important day for two very different reasons for two very different groups. With the resignation of the Pope in full effect, today begins the internal process of the Cardinals from the Vatican who will meet and vote on the next Pope who will lead his fellow Catholics for the foreseeable future. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum and a date that had been determined for some time, gamers will finally get their hands on the next chapter of the PlayStation-exclusive franchise, God of War. The 4th console game and 6th in the series, God of War: Ascension once again places you in control of Kratos and is set before those of Chains of Olympus, about ten years before the original God of War. We’ll be having our own multi-part review shortly, covering the game’s single player adventure and multiplayer aspect, a first for the franchise separately. All this begs the question: now that God of War: Ascension has ascended into retailers, are you planning on purchasing the latest from Sony Santa Monica?

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Trailer

Assassins_Creed_4_Black_Flag_CoverHey Assassin’s Creed fans, are you ready to jump into the latest open world entry from Ubisoft? Set in the 1800’s, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag puts you in control of protagonist Captain Edward Kenway, who is feared even by the ruthless pirate, Blackbeard. Like any Assassin’s Creed game, the game doesn’t seem to sway too far from the traditional formula though there is even more high tides and ship-to-ship combat than the previous entry, so count me sold. Set to release on October 29th on current gen consoles and next gen when they arrive. After the jump, Pirates of the Caribbean Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag trailer.

Diablo 3 Won’t Allow for Cross-Platform Play Between PSN and Battle.net

Diablo_3_Announcement

One of the big reveals during the PlayStation 4 press conference was the change of heart at Blizzard. The long-time PC supporter and general console snob was on stage, touting their love for the PlayStation 4 and what they hope to do with the console. More immediate however for PlayStation fans was news that Diablo 3 would be coming to the PlayStation 3 and eventually the PlayStation 4. Like all things within the industry, as time goes on, we tend to hear more details about them – some for good and some for bad, in this case. According to Blizzard:

In terms of allowing an analog controller hookup for the PC, we don’t have any plans for that kind of support right now. Similarly, since Diablo 3 for console was designed with a controller in mind, the PlayStation version of Diablo 3 will not support USB mice or keyboards.

Uncharted 3 Multiplayer to Go Free-to-Play

Uncharted 3 multiplayer

Holding up to the long time tradition of accidentally leaking their own products, the PlayStation Blog has revealed some juicy details about Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. The material which has by now been deleted revealed that Uncharted 3 multiplayer could be going free-to-play, thanks to PSN.

No further details are known about the game though the initiative does fit the bill. In late 2012, Naughty Dog promised that “very exciting information about multiplayer” was coming in 2013.

Additionally, we have some very exciting information about multiplayer around the start of next year.

Hotline Miami Preview – Crazy, Beautiful, Violent

Hotline Miami Preview – Crazy, Beautiful, Violent

I’ll probably get crucified for saying this, but Hotline Miami’s crazy, beautiful, violent gameplay is exactly what the PS Vita needs to survive. It’s so unique, so over-the-top crazy, and so freaking violent that even I couldn’t believe developers actually went balls out with the game’s content. Hotline Miami makes Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt look like Sesame Street in comparison.

Originally released for PC, Hotline Miami is a hyper-violent, top-down shooter that plays like a 2D (but way more inventive) version of Manhunt where you’ll be violently taking down vicious enemies in beautifully-violent choreographed ways before they get a chance to take you out.

PS3 Owners Get Screwed Again, Destiny from Bungie Will Be Xbox 360 Timed Exclusive

Destiny

As you may have read today, Bungie has finally taken off the wraps from their highly-anticipated new franchise entitled Destiny. The company, famously known for creating the mega popular Halo series for Xbox, parted ways with Microsoft nearly 3 years ago and signed a 10-year deal with Activision. Destiny, which takes place in a brand new world that’s always connected, required a constant internet connection in order to play the FPS. This is in part due to the game’s fluid nature which places heavy emphasis on player actions with outcomes that the developers might not see, thus the always-on requirement. Fret not though as Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg says:

absolutely no plans to charge a subscription fee.

That’s where the good news begins to dim a bit if you’re a PlayStation 3 owner. Bungie has revealed that they want to get as many players into this game as possible. Currently, the game is set to arrive on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2014. This date also happens to be after what will probably be the release of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720 which likely means that there is a chance that the game will also come on next gen consoles. To further drive the always-on concept, there even appears to be an iOS companion app which allows you to further interact with the world while away from your console. That and the trailer can be seen, after the jump. So yes Bungie wants everyone to play their game, just not all at the same time, according to their revealed contract.

No ‘The Last of Us’ is Not Coming Out for PS4

The Last Of UsAs many of you have probably heard by now, Naughty Dog, the developers behind Uncharted, the hit PlayStation 3 series are delaying The Last of Us. Set in an entirely different world, the ambitious game followers the story of Joel and Ellie in a post apocalyptic world and features the most stunning PS3 graphics to date. The developers have in fact been quoted for saying that they’ve maxed out the PS3 in every way possible. Wanting to release the game to their stands, the games May 7th release date has been pushed back by a month to June 14th, to ensure the team has some more polish time. Talking with the PlayStation Blog, Lead Game Designer Neil Druckmann said,

instead of cutting corners or compromising our vision, we came to the tough decision that the game deserved a few extra weeks to ensure every detail of The Last of Us was up to Naughty Dog’s internal high standards.

As a team we pride ourselves on setting a very high quality bar for every aspect of our games – gameplay, story, art, design, technology and more. We want to make sure The Last of Us raises that bar even further – for ourselves, and most importantly, for you, our fans.

The Best PS3 Games You Missed in 2012

spec-ops-the-line

2012 was a great year to be a PS3 owner. Not only did we get to play a number of groundbreaking third-party triple-A titles like Far Cry 3 and Assassin’s Creed 3, we also received a smattering of unique and creative independent titles like Retro City Rampage, Unfinished Swan, and the award-winning Journey.

Unforunately, because of the almost overwhelming amount of games to choose from, there were a number of truly great titles that went unnoticed and never achieved the sales they deserved. The games on this list are the best PS3 games you missed in 2012.

Layoffs Explained, SuperBot Parts Ways with Sony

Superbot

Just last week, we reported on how SuperBot Entertainment, the developers behind the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita exclusive title, PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, were laying off 20 employees. At the time, it wasn’t clear if the developers were downsizing after the ramp up for PS All-Stars (which is typical as companies tend to hire additional staffing near the product’s release time to meet the game’s deadline), or if the layoff was due to the game not meeting sales expectations which would result in the company needing to cut costs. After today’s announcement that Sony and SuperBot are going their separate ways, it’s become quite clear as to why the layoffs took place.

Extended God of War: Ascension Super Bowl Trailer

God of War: Ascension Super Bowl

The Sony hype machine continues to build anticipation for the 4th console-bound GoW title, God of War: Ascension. Set for release on March 12th, 2013, GoW: A is the first in the series to embrace multiplayer while also offering the traditional linear single player campaign. If fans didn’t know there was a new game nearing release before, they will now as Sony has aired their latest God of War commercial during the Super Bowl, ensuring that millions and millions of people will see it.

Without further ado, after the jump, the extended God of War: Ascension Super Bowl trailer. Fan of GoW? Be sure to check out the God of War: Ascension Manticore creation process.

Todd Papy Walks You Through God of War: Ascension Manticore Creation Process

God of War

One of the perks of being a movie buff is getting your hands on the Blu-ray version of a film and enjoying the rich behind the scenes that can come with titles. This not only can be a fun retrospective of how a movie comes together, but also a learning experience for those eager to get into the industry. The video game industry is no different with droves of would-be game developers wanting to know more about the process that it takes to create a game. And unlike a film, a given process in a game can change dramatically from the inception to the gold build.

After the jump, Todd Papy, Game Director of God of War: Ascension walks you through a in depth video from the inception of the Manticore flight to the final outcome.

Superbot Lays Off 20 Employees After PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale

Superbot

Lay off stories are always the worst articles to write as they have a deep impact on things that matter, family and lively hood. While the internet is an easy place to hide and lay out criticism towards community members and developers like the huge backlash against Ninja Theory for their take on Devil May Cry, we have to remember that they are like you and I. Not to say that this was the case for Superbot, the developers behind the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita exclusive PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale. Instead, I want to draw focus that with every job less, be it a massive layoff or a small one, there is a real damage that comes to be it from it as those people no longer have a source of income to pay for their bills and rent.

Resident Evil Revelations Coming to PS3 in May

Resident Evil Retaliation

Capcom recently announced that Resident Evil Revelations is coming to the PS3 in May. Since most of us here are PS3 and Vita players, we missed out on Resident Evil Revelations when it first came out for the Nintendo 3DS. It was so good in fact that many Resident Evil fans consider it a better title than Resident Evil 6 for the consoles.

Taking place between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil Revelations casts players as either Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield (along with each of their partners) as they try to solve solve the mystery within the abandoned Cruise Ship Queen Zeonbia.
