Assassin’s Creed Revelations Blu-Ray To Include Original Game

Ubisoft announced that they have partnered up with PlayStation to include an exclusive bonus to the Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Blu-Ray. According to the company, Assassins Creed Revelations will include the full original Assassin’s Creed game on the same disc.

This makes sense as AC: Revelations is the final chapter in Ezio and Altair’s stories; and what better way to end it by letting players experience where it all started. Keep in mind that this bonus is on for a limited time only. So pre-order your copy of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations before it comes out later this year.

This isn’t the first time Sony has gotten exclusive content on third-party titles because of the bigger amount of data space that Blu-Ray provides developers and publishers. So far, we’ve played EA’s Dead Space: Extraction as part of the Dead Space 2 disc, Medal of Honor included a remastered-in-HD version of Medal of Honor: Frontline, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Gold Edition included a copy of Battlefield 1943 on the same disc.

DC Universe Online Going Free To Play In October

DC Universe Online is Sony Online Entertainment Massively Multiplayer Online RPG for the PlayStation 3 and PC. So far, the game has met with mixed to positive results with critics and consumers alike. As it stands, the game costs $49.99 with a $14.99 monthly fee.

As a gamer who’s never been interested in MMORPG’s, I had never even given any thought of purchasing or playing DC Universe Online because of the monthly fee, as well as the lengthy dedication the game requires of it’s players.

But I think my mind’s about to change.

According to Sony Online Entertainment, DC Online Universe is going free to play starting in October. This means, players can download and play the game for free, with some microtransaction features for those who are willing to pay for extra and exclusive content. Shoot Many Robots Preview

I was walking through Ubisoft’s demonstration booths when this game with an animated design caught my eye. It had hillbilly-looking characters carrying big guns who shot and destroyed pretty much everything that moved on the screen.

As I watched people play the game, I thought to myself “Goddamn! I need to try this!”

It looked like a cross between Contra, Metal Slug, and the Horde Mode from Gears of War, It was Shoot Many Robots, a digital release from Demiurge Studios.

It had such a distinct gameplay idea and visual presentation that even David Jaffe, creator of Sony’s Twisted Metal series stopped in his tracks while we were conducting an interview later that day as he commented at how cool the game was.

PlayStation 3 System Software Update 3.72 Now Live (updated)

The minor PlayStation 3 System Software Update 3.72 is now live and ready for download. This manditory update is a fairly small one in size and should only take a few minutes to download and install. The update, according to Sony will improve;

system stability during use of PS3 format software and network services has been improved.

Beyond that, not much is even known or told about minor updates. We can only hope that it also address the PlayStation Plus Auto Trophy Sync issue that exists.

Ni No Kuni Coming To North American PS3’s

At Tokyo Game Show earlier this week, Studio Ghibli and Level-5 announced that they will be releasing the long awaited Ni No Kuni: Queen of the White Ashes to North America sometime in 2012.

According to Level-5’s President, Hiro Akihino, the english version of the game is now in production and will be released to the market in early 2012. He also said that while the the PS3 and DS versions will both start out the same, the games will have major story differences at a certain point. He also noted that the PlayStation 3 version will have additional content as well as planned downloadable content exclusive to the system.

Choplifter HD Developer Interview

Who could forget playing the classic Choplifter for the ATARI?

Even with it’s blocky and antiquated graphics, Choplifter is, even now, still really fun to play. Imagine my surprise to learn that a new Choplifter game is coming out for the PlayStation 3. I had a chat with Bryan Perfetto, lead engineer for Choplifter HD at inXile Entertainment about their upcoming PSN game.

DUST 514 Developer Interview

One of the bigger PlayStation 3 game announcements at E3 that kind of flew under everyone’s radar was CCP’s DUST 514. DUST 514 is a massively multiplayer online first person shooter set in the same PC MMO EVE Online universe, one of the longest running MMO’s in history.

While EVE online is all about politics, economy and space battles, DUST highlights down and dirty ground battles deep in the planetary wars found in EVE Online. Battles won or lost in DUST 514 will affect events, politics, and economy of the EVE online universe. Sonyrumors staff writer Jan Hutchings recently had a chance to meet with Sveinn J. Kjarval, EVE Online’s Community Developer to talk about the state of EVE Online and it’s cross-platform play with DUST 514 on the PS3 and the PS Vita.

Black Ops Rezurrection DLC Coming To PS3 September 22

PlayStation 3 Black Ops owners will soon be able to take on hordes of Nazi (and space) zombies with the upcoming release of Black Ops: Rezurrection DLC this fall.

Kevin Butler Rides High On a Horse, Fights for the Resistance in Resistance 3

This Tuesday, the PlayStation 3 exclusive game, Resistance 3 launched across the US. The 3rd entry on the PlayStation 3 is once again developed by the long time PlayStation veterans at Insomniac Games. This time, gamers take control of Joseph Capelli who sets on a cross-country trip to New York while battling the forces of the Chimera. Like most AAA PlayStation 3 titles, you can expect native 3D support with PlayStation Move and PlayStation Sharpshooter. Of course it wouldn’t be a true AAA title with a mention from Kevin Butler and this time, KB is riding the high horse to help the resistance.

If you’ve yet to pickup a PlayStation Move, Sony has also released Resistance 3: Doomsday Edition for $149 which includes:

The Darkness 2 Developer Interview

Back in the early days of this console generation, The Darkness successfully transitioned from a much loved graphic novel, to a successful story-driven first-person shooter for PS3. Players itching to continue demonized mobster Jackie Estacado’s story will be surprised by the amount of action, story, new darkness powers, and exciting gameplay that the The Darkness 2 brings to the table.

I had a chance to talk to Sheldon Carter, the Project Director at Digital Extremes (developer of The Darkness 2) at PAX Prime to discuss the new features, story, and gameplay tweaks that players can expect from the sequel.

NFL Sunday Night Ticket Now Available on the PS3

Announced last month, a partnership between Sony and DirecTV would be bring the much-desired NFL Sunday Night Ticket to the PlayStation 3 console. The programming, which is already available for DirecTV customers, would allow them to use the PlayStation 3 as a separate receiver, capable of playing the NFL programming for $50 per season. Those who have services other than DirecTV would also be able to purchase the programing and view the NFL Sunday Night Ticket via a PlayStation 3 app for $339.95. Some of the apps features include:

live multi-game scoreboards and field position trackers, which also allow you to access highlights, stats, standings and schedules, as well as the Red Zone Channel, which gives you live coverage of Sunday’s most exciting moments.

NFL fans will be quick to note that the season is soon approaching, and, just in time, the PlayStation 3 app has gone live and is available to download for free. PlayStation 3 owners who have DirecTV will be able to access their account, while those with no DirecTV contract can instead pay $84.99 a month (4 months total) for the package. The current HD bandwidth/bitrate feed is 3mbps. The app itself can be found under the new PlayStation category “My Channel” section or under the Media section in the PlayStation Store. For those who have available funds in their PlayStation account wallet, fees can be paid for by any credit card linked to your account or any PlayStation Network gift card.

PAX Prime 2011 – GoldenEye 007 Reloaded PS3 Interview

If you missed out on Activision’s 007 remake on the Nintendo Wii last year, fear not as the publisher is getting ready to redeploy the secret agent in his best video game on the Playstation 3; and compared to the Xbox 360 release, Reloaded for the PS3 will support PlayStation Move motion control functionality.

GoldenEye 007 was originally made in 1997 for the Nintendo 64 game system and is widely considered to be the very first console first person shooter that got the controls right. It is also widely regarded as better than the movie the game is based from. This time, Pierce Brosnan is out, replaced by the darker and grittier Bond in Daniel Craig. I talked with Activision’s Glenn Oliver to talk about the game’s new exclusive features, PS Move Functionality, and multiplayer components at PAX Prime 2011.

PlayStation 3 System Update 3.7 Trophy and Game Save Auto-Sync Fix Discovered

Two of the great features added to the PlayStation 3 and exclusive to PlayStation Plus members with the most recent PS3 System Update 3.7 was the ability for trophies and game saves to be automatically uploaded. The idea was that you allocated a specific time slot for your PS3 to turn on every day, scan for new trophies or games and upload them online. After the process, your PlayStation 3 would then turn off on its own. From the looks of the gaming forums and comment sections on most sites, it seems that this feature went off without a hitch. However, there lies a minor part of the community who were not able to get the new feature to work, including myself. After trying some simple trouble shooting techniques like choosing different time slots, logging in and out of my account and disabling and enabling the feature again, it seemed like there was not much I could do. Surfing different forums all lead to the same conclusion: for a minority of users out there, this feature was/is not working. After having some contact with Sony on the matter, I’d yet to hear a confirmation of the issue and I was started to chalk things up towards just some minor machines not playing nice. As a last ditch effort, I decided to call the PlayStation customer support and to my surprise, not only did they acknowledge the issue, but had a work around as well. They also confirmed, though with no time table, that this bug will be hammered out in the next system update. Sony Announces The Uncharted Dual Pack

With the Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception release in just a few months, Sony wants more people to experience the first two games in the franchise. Earlier this week, Sony announced that they would be releasing Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves in one game collection.

Dubbed “The Uncharted Dual Pack,” the collection will feature both games and the Uncharted Super Voucher. This voucher gives players a code to download ALL the DLC released for Uncharted 2 as well as the Uncharted 3 announcement items like avatar items and the eye-catching dynamic theme.

While some would think of the timely re-release of both games as just another cash grab by Sony, the Uncharted Dual Pack is actually a great way to introduce the franchise to thousands of new PlayStation 3 owners who bought the system after the recent price cut to $249.99.
