Sony Santa Monica Studio Moving to New 85,000 Square Feet Offices in Playa Vista

Sony_Santa_Monica_Studios

If you’ve been camping out in Santa Monica outside of Sony Santa Monica Studios in hopes of catching a glimpse of the Stig or a tossed out paper with info about the next God of War game, then listen up. Thanks to the success of the PS4 and other hits from the studio which include God of War: Ascension (among other GoW titles), flOw, flOwer, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, and the upcoming PS4 title, The Order: 1886, the studio’s 240 employees are beginning to feel cramped in their offices. With at least two AAA titles being worked on at the studio which includes The Order: 1886 among other smaller titles, the studio will be moving its location after more than a decade in Santa Monica to accommodate the companies growing teams.

PS1 and PS2 Games Coming to PS4 Without the Need for PlayStation Now Cloud Service?

PlayStation_Family

A rumor that’s  been going around the web is that Sony will announce the arrival of PlayStation One and PlayStation 2 games for the PS4 without the need of their recently announced PlayStation Now service. The rumor further speculates that this will be done via software emulation and that Sony is working to ensure that backward-compatible games are optimized for native HD resolutions. This would be akin to what Sony offered on the PS3 via PSN where gamers could purchase and download past titles which were designed to run on the cell processor. While a juicy rumor, I find it hard to believe. Here’s why.

Exclusive Interview: We Talk With Turtle Beach About Their PS4, PS3, and PS Vita Headset Ambitions

Sony and Turtle Beach recently announced a partnership that would see the famous headset maker release an official series of headsets for the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. While no specifics were announced, this was the first time that the two companies would work together in an official manor. More importantly, Turtle Beach has previously been heavily focused on Xbox and this continues the trend of developers and accessories maker beginning to once again back PlayStation in a favorable manor. This like has to due with the great sales number from the console and Sony’s changed attitude towards its partners.

To discuss this recent announcement, I (@Doc_Gamer) sat down with Jeff Burchett, Community Marketing Manager at Turtle Beach to talk about their latest headsets, including their PS4, PS3, and PS Vita efforts. While this partnership will surely bring new and high end headsets to the PlayStation line, thanks to recent leaks, it’s believed that Sony will soon be launching a Gold Wireless Stereo Headset for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Leaked: Gold Wireless Stereo Headset for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita

PlayStaiton_Gold_Stereo_Headset_3

As we patiently sit and wait for Sony to release a new firmware update for the PS4 which will allow us to connect the PlayStation Pulse Elite Headset from the PS3, leaks point to a new official headset from Sony that will be compatible with the PS3, PS4, and Vita. Popping up on Best Buy and other sites, the Sony  Gold Wireless Stereo Headset for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita is described as a headset with similar features to that of the Pulse Elite like virtual 7.1 surround sound. If you’re worried that this is just a rehash of the same headset with updated firmware to run on the PS4, think again as this new headset is also set to feature Companion App which allows you to:

download custom game modes created exclusively for PlayStation by developers that are specifically tuned to enhance the audio in your favorite games

Lets talk more details, after the jump.

Leaked Screenshot: Will inFamous: Second Son Have Online Multiplayer?

inFamous_Second_Son_Multiplayer

Thanks to a leaked screenshot, it seems possible that inFamous: Second Son, the third installment in the inFamous series and exclusive to the PlayStation 4 will have some form of online multiplayer. While no details have been announced, the news shouldn’t be a shock in this day and age as all of Sony’s AAA titles have recently offered multiplayer. The trend itself can be traced back a few years when famed developer Naughty Dog took the Uncharted series online and followed with The Last of Us which also surprisingly and yet fittingly included online gameplay. Other titles like God of War: Ascension also support a robust online multiplayer, leaving little doubt that it’s at least been discussed and planned for inFamous: Second Son to incorporate such features. Now if it comes to fruition in the final build of the game is a completely different question. After the jump, we discuss the leaked screenshot.

Sony Registered Two New ‘LittleBigPlanet’ Trademarks; Is a PS4 Title in the Works?

LittleBigPlanet_2

Oh the patent and trademark system. You give us so much hope, leak so much information, yet tend to never materialize on some of your coolest outings. As always, when we talk about a trademark or patent, it should be taken with a grain of salt as many companies, including Sony, will regularly file for a trademark or patent for something that may never come to be. With that, it seems that Sony recently filled for two trademarks in the UK with the words LBP in them. For those not familiar, LBP most often stands for LittleBigPlanet, the highly regarded title from Media Molecule who just recently shipped TearAway on PS Vita to much critical claim as well. So what are the two trademarks?

inFamous: Second Son – Trailer 2 Revealed

inFamous Second Son Gamescom_05

A second trailer for the highly anticipated PS4 exclusive, inFamous: Second Son has just made its way online. While originally targeted for release during the PS4 launch, Sucker Punch, the developers behind the franchise, decided to delay the game till Spring 2014 in order to further tighten what already seemed like an excellent game. Sufficient to say, their efforts seems to be paying off as the game looks more gorgeous than ever. The inFamous: Second Son trailer 2 awaits you after the jump.

Future PS4 Firmware Update Won’t Allow DualShock 4′s Light Bar to be Turned Off

DualShock_4_4

One of the features of the Dualshock 4 is a built-in LED bar that lies between the trigger fingers. While it may or may not look cool, depending on your taste, this light bar serves an important purpose – it allows the PlayStation Eye to track your controller for more accurate movement. The light bar on the Dualshock 4 can also be used as a great way to distinguish different players with different colors assigned. While designed to serve an important purpose, some gamers were not happy with the light bar (because it takes a lot for a gamer to not be happy about something) and wondered out loud if a future firmware update would allow you to turn off the light bar when not needed. Now Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studios at Sony has spoken on the matter.

HBO Go, DISH Hopper Virtual Joey Adding More Entertainment Options for PlayStation

11987861465_77a812c09e_oThe PlayStation 3 began it’s life as the destination for entertainment content. Blu-ray was supposed to become the dominant format following DVD, and the PS3 was the only video game console to support the new medium. As it turned out, downloadable and streaming video became the destination for entertainment content, as services like Netflix, Hulu, and even traditionally broadcast-based networks like PBS and ESPN took to the internet. HBO Go has found its way to many devices, including the Xbox 360 (still no timetable for an Xbox One release), but had yet to make it to the PlayStation ecosystem–but that’s going to change very soon.

Should You Play ‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ (PS4)?

Featured_Assassins_Creed_Black_Flag_Review

There’s something to be said for trying something different. Taking a chance, bucking the trend, eschewing the conventional. Unfortunately, that’s not something said too often about the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Since the seminal Assassin’s Creed II in 2009, Ubisoft Montreal’s tentpole franchise has been reliant upon building on what worked, little by little, while letting some mechanics idle and age with each passing release. With Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the follow up–and partial prequel–to last year’s Assassin’s Creed III, Ubisoft has pushed forward a little bit more, maybe enough to be something that’s a must-buy for any PlayStation 4 owners.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Likely Coming to PS3 and PS4

Plants_vs_Zombies_Garden_Warfare

One of the games that really caught my attention during E3 2013 was Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare from developer Popcap. While very much a Plants vs. Zombies game, this iteration of the game changes thing up by creating a more shooter-based/tower defense game while still incorporating all the things that we love about the series. Unfortunately, this all came with one big caveat. The game would launch exclusively on the Xbox One and Xbox 360. While Popcap danced around the subject at the time, it seemed obvious that this was a timed exclusive and that the game would eventually arrive on other platforms (i.e. PS3 & PS4) but with Microsoft shelling out cash for exclusivity, it’s no surprise that the team only wanted to talk about their current build. Now with the game nearing its Xbox launch, the developers are feeling a bit more candid and willing to talk about the game’s fate on other consoles.
