Exclusive to the PS4, The Order: 1886 is developed by Ready at Dawn and Sony Santa Monica as a shooter with a 2014 release date. While not a lot of details are known about the title, outside of a teaser trailer that was shown at E3 2013, we do know that the game has been in development since 2010 and really began to properly ramp up in 2012. Now, new concept art from the game has emerged that help further set the mood and direction of the game which can be enjoyed after the jump.
PlayStation 4
Today has been a big day in the gaming world. Amongst the flurry of game-related news, PlayStation announced two new colors for their PS4 Dualshock 4 controllers. Say hello to Magma Red and Wave Blue, the two colors that will join the ranks with the ever-popular Jet Black. These two-toned controllers are sleek and fun, and they’ll be sure to bring a pop of color to your living room (you may never lose your controller in the couch again!).
These colorful controllers will be available upon launch in Europe, and later this year (TBA) in North America. As the press release notes, they will be sold at an RRP of € 59 / £ 54 (including tax) in Europe and US$ 59 / Canada$ 59 in North America. We’ll keep you up to date as we learn more!
If you want to get into the nitty gritty of these controllers, check out the press release after the jump. But first, vote in our poll!
We’ve heard a lot about the PlayStation 4 being capable of streaming most of its games to the PlayStation Vita via Remote Play. While technically possible between the PS3 and PSP, neither console housed the appropriate hardware to allow for the vision to work properly. Due to this, very few developers embraced the feature. With the PS4, the functionality of Remote Play to the Vita is baked in with developers having to do little to no work and ensuring that most titles will support the feature. After the jump, we can see how seamless the feature works when you start a game like Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag on the PS4 and continue the game via Remote Play on the PlayStation Vita which was shown at Gamescon 2013 PlayStation press conference.
When Sony announced the PlayStation 4 way back in Spring, fans quickly fell in love with the system. While offering more freedom than the Xbox (though MS has backtracked on some of its earlier policies), the PS4 also fully embraced the social world we live in. One such measure is the ability for the PlayStation 4 to record and stream your gameplay. At any given moment, the PS4 records 15 minutes of your footage that you can upload and share online with no subscription service required. On the other hand, the Xbox One is only capable of recording 5 minutes of footage and requires a paid Xbox Live membership account in order for you to share your recorded gameplay footage.
Beyond being able to share gameplay footage, both companies announced that their game console would be able to stream live gameplay footage. While Microsoft announced a partnership with the popular Twitch.tv platform where millions of gamers already stream their gameplay footage, Sony announced that they’d partnered with uStream. While uStream offers a similar service to that of Twitch.tv and both platforms would be free for gamers, uStream is more designed at corporations and isn’t as well put together, especially when it comes to content discovery as Twitch.tv. While not a dealbreaker, gamers clamored that Twitch.tv would also become available on the PS4 and after today’s press conference at Gamescom, we can happily announce that the PlayStation 4 will allow streaming through either uStream or Twitch.tv.
We’re now live with our PlayStation Gamescon 2013 live blog. You can check out some of our previous predictions and hopes from the press conference. Live blog awaits you, after the jump.
Here at SonyRumors, we’re excited for Gamescom. We’re so excited we’re doing a live-blog of Sony’s PlayStation media briefing this morning! But before the conference officially kicks off, we thought we’d give you our educated guesses, predictions, and a few hopeful wishes for what we’ll see tomorrow at Koelnmesse in Cologne.
And cats. Yep.
It’s been quite apparent from early 2013 that PlayStation is a different company than it was in 2012, let alone the years prior. While the PS3 launch was plauged by a company who was overconfident and cocky of their competitor, the years since have been turbulent as well with odd or lacking advertisement and side projects like the Wonderbook. I should also point out that I believe the idea of the Wonderbook is quite fantastic but that the PS3 hardware, including the PlayStation Eye, were not adequate for the platform. Still, it’s also hard to ignore that things have been steadily improving for the brand. While the PS Vita has not caught on with consumers, there are many things Sony did right during launch. Abundant supply, very powerful specs, lower price point that many anticipated (though still too high for what consumers wanted), and an array of games that were not just PS3 ports. The PS3 has also been a savior for gamers who don’t want just another CoD game with more exclusives each year while it seems like Microsoft stopped developing games for the Xbox 360 nearly two years ago.
With the PS3 now edging the Xbox 360 in sales, despite still costing more and having been out for one less year, it seems that now is the time for PlayStation to truly surge ahead of Microsoft in the current gen race and next gen with the PS4 launch.
The UK PlayStation Blog has posted a preview of Sony’s plans for Gamescom, the annual gaming expo in Cologne, Germany. The PlayStation media briefing will be held on Tuesday August 20 at 6pm BST (1pm Eastern / 10am Pacific), where they will be sharing “our release plans for PlayStation 4, as well as updates on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.”
The indie movement at PlayStation has been a sight to see as of late. The commitment by Sony Computer Entertainment to independently developed, non-AAA, self-published games has been almost unparalleled in the console scene–though some credit can be given to the Xbox Live Indie Games early in the current generation for bringing titles like Geometry Wars front and center. But with last year’s incredible indie contingent of games like Closure, Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack, Skullgirls, Telltale’s The Walking Dead, Sound Shapes, The Unfinished Swan, and Journey, it’s hard to deny that there are some amazing games being brought to Sony systems from smaller devs.
One of the most unique games to come to the PlayStation 3 and Vita this year has been Hotline Miami. With its slick 80’s synth soundtrack and brutal top-down combat, Hotline Miami is another indie darling that’s found a home on PlayStation devices. And if an updated (and then removed) description on the YouTube teaser for Dennaton Games‘ follow-up, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is any indication, their presence on Sony devices will continue to be felt next year on the PS Vita and PlayStation 4.
PAX Prime 2013 is coming soon, and studios are busy putting together their best possible showings. With this comes some great announcements, like this one from Spearhead Games, a Montreal-based indie studio made up of former Assassin’s Creed and Dead Space developers. Tiny Brains, a co-op action puzzle game, has been confirmed as a launch title for the PlayStation 4.
According to the press release, Tiny Brains “challenges players to escape a mad scientist’s nefarious puzzles as one of four mysteriously powerful lab rodents.” Tiny Brains will be coming to other platforms this fall, including Steam and possibly Xbox Live Arcade. If you’re coming to PAX in Seattle, you’ll be able to play Tiny Brains (with a DualShock 4!) at booth 6305. If you can’t make it, look for a hands-on preview from the show floor right here at Sony Rumors, and check out the latest screenshots of this cute puzzler:
For two years, PlayStation 3 fans have been able to enjoy NFL Sunday Ticket by purchasing the service from DirecTV via a native app. While DirecTV customers would get a discount on the monthly for the highly desired service, anyone with a broadband access to get in on the NFL action though they would have to pay more. Now, according to Sony, the app which allowed you to watch any NFL game in session will no longer be available to PlayStation 3 owners this season though we assume he means indefinitely. Though Sony didn’t comment further on the matter, the reasoning behind it seems clear. Microsoft.
Over the weekend, reports began to spread that Sony is looking to bundle the PlayStation 4 ($399) and PlayStation Vita ($249 Wi-Fi, $299 3G) for $499, essentially making the Vita cost $100. This makes sense on many fronts, seeing how the PS4 and PS Vita will share a lot of compatibility between each other like using the Vita as a second screen app. More importantly, the Vita will have full Remote Play compatibility with the PS4, allowing you to stream those games to the powerful handheld via your houses Wi-Fi or over the internet so marrying the two via a bundle seems like an appropriate action. Equally, for those who might be put off by the Vita’s higher price tag, $100 might no longer be a stumbling block for them. It’s unclear if such a deal does take place, which PS Vita model would be offered. So if this holds true, would you take the plunge and purchase a PS4/PS Vita bundle?
If you’re like me, you can’t wait for that first time you play a game you’ve been waiting for forever. Whether it’s a downloaded demo or at a friend’s house or tearing the seal off the jewel case at midnight of launch, that first experience is memorable. For an estimated 50,000 people, this year’s PAX Prime in Seattle, WA will be the first time they’ll get a chance to see and play the PlayStation 4. The Penny Arcade Expo takes place August 30 through September 2–Labor Day Weekend for our U.S. readers–and the SonyRumors team will be on the ground at the show to let you know all about the latest happenings.
Among the notable panels being presented at PAX is a postmortem on Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us by game director Bruce Straley and creative director/writer Neil Druckmann. “Pitching The Last of Us” will take place in the Pegasus Theater on Friday at 2:30pm; here are the details of what will be presented:
There’s one thing on the mind of every PlayStation gamer this fall: when will the PlayStation 4 be coming out? When the console was announced in February, we were told Holiday 2013. At E3 in June, no further information was given — still set for Holiday 2013. Meanwhile, Microsoft announced at E3 that the Xbox One will be coming out (at least in the United States) in November. With gamescom and PAX and a number of other events on the horizon, the question of what the PS4’s launch date will be has become one on a lot of peoples’ minds, so of course people are checking local and online retailers for any glimmer or sign of a possible launch window.
This weekend, it seemed as though the folks at Toys ‘R Us in the United Kingdom would be the ones to let slip the most anticipated dates in gaming. IGN — among others, including UK site NowGamer and Britain’s Telegraph newspaper — picked up on a report from BT Games, which had reportedly confirmed that the Xbox One would be set to release on November 29, while the PlayStation 4 would launch two weeks later on December 13. The Xbox date still gets it into stores in the month of November–albeit only just slightly–while the mid-December PS4 release date would still fall in the Holiday window previously announced.
