PSA: ‘Destiny: Sparrow Racing League’ Is Now Live

Destiny Sparrow Racing League

Readers of the site know that I’m a huge Destiny fan. In fact, it’s pretty much what I’ve played all year long, due to its ability of allowing me to play for hours on end or just jump in for 15 to 20 minutes and still accomplish something. Having started on December 8th and lasting till December 29th, Bungie is introducing what we’ve all wanted from the beginning: Sparrow racing.

Dubbed the Sparrow Racing League, the free event is available for owners of The Taken King DLC. According to Bungie, anybody

who participate[s] will be able to earn rewards unique to the mode. This includes racing suits for their Guardian and new sparrows.

PlayStation platforms will have also have access to a timed-exclusive Sparrow Racing quest, which rewards a unique Sparrow.

After the jump, a trailer for the fun new mode which is part TRON, part WipEout, and both part awesome.

Behind the Scenes of ‘The Wonderful Life of a PS4 Player’ Ad

The_Wonderful_Life_Of_A_PS4_Player_Ad

A month or so ago, Sony released a cheeky ad in Europe dubbed ‘The Wonderful Life of a PS4 Player’ which featured a ton of PlayStation characters, dancing, and wonderful visuals. I’m not a huge fan of the ad as Sony’s had similar ad campaigns in the past. While wonderful for hardcore gamers catching all the references that are being lobbed at them, I’m not sure it does much to sell the console. Then again, with how well things are going for PS4, maybe Sony doesn’t need to push the console as much as keep the fanbase happy with content that’s very much geared at them.

The ad:

Whether you like the ad or not, after the jump, you’ll find a behind the scenes video on how the ad was constructed which is quite fascinating.

PlayStation VR Price and Release Date to Be Revealed in 2016

Sony_Project_Morpheus_35873300-2914-015

A big part of PAX included a series of new games for PlayStation VR, the upcoming addition to PS4. We’ve already known for some time that PS VR would arrive in 2016 but we’ve never been given a time frame or price for that matter. Now, Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that we’ll get both of those things, just not this year.

These things we are not able to show as yet. We are working hard to prepare for the reveal of these features that we haven’t been able to talk about [for] PlayStation VR, as well as of course pricing and release date and what do you get when you buy the system.

A bit more details after the jump.

‘Final Fantasy VII Remastered’ on PS4 Priced at $10.87 for Limited Time

FF7_vs_FF7_Remastered_PS4

As you’re likely aware, during the weekend at PSX, Square Enix showed off the first official (non-teaser) trailer from the Final Fantasy VII Remake. What makes the trailer especially noteworthy is that it’s the first time we’ve seen the game running on a PS4 with gameplay footage. Like E3, fans were quick to lose their mind and soon after that, were ready to be punched in the gut as we expect these days from Square.

While the E3 presentation was pure bliss, it was soon revealed to the dismay of many that this won’t be a direct remake of FF7 and that Square will make changes to the game, including storyline tweaks and gameplay mechanical chances. Over the weekend, we saw some of that which moves the game away from ATB system to a more, action based RPG. Think along the lines of Kingdom Hearts. However the biggest controversy since then is the reveal that once released, FF7 will come in multiple parts that will likely span a few years. It’s unclear how many parts and how much each part will cost.

This article isn’t necessarily about that because I still haven’t fully considered all the pros and cons of such a move. However, it feels timely to point out that during the weekend, Final Fantasy VII Remastered was made available on PS4: basically the original game which was released a few years later on PC with some slightly better graphics and minor fixes. So if you’re looking to relive the original in as pure of a form as you can, you either purchase the original PSone version for $9,99 or this version for $10.87 for a limited time. Once the deal is gone, the game will shoot back up to its normal $15.99 price.

‘Fat Princess Adventures’ is Coming to the PS4 – Today!

Fat Princess Adventures

I spent several of my PS3 days gallivanting about the world of Fat Princess, chopping down trees and being thrown across the map by a makeshift catapult – always just barely missing the other team’s castle walls. I couldn’t help but fall in love with the game’s innocence and charm. When the PS4 arrived, however, our pleas of “more cake, please!” fell on seemingly deaf ears. That is, until PSX 2014, when Sony Santa Monica and Fun Bits Interactive announced Fat Princess Adventures. It was playable at the con, complete with four-player co-op, but lacking a release date.

Today, our questions have been answered.

PS4 – Highest Earning Black Friday Product at Best Buy

Black_Friday_PS4_Uncharted_Bundle

At this point, the success of PS4 at every corner seems typical yet each thing we hear about the console is still impressive. The latest comes from market research firm Infoscout which reports that PS4 was the highest earner for Best Buy on Black Friday. To be clear, this doesn’t mean PS4 sold the most out of their products offered but that between the units sold and at its price point, it earned the most.

A full list of retailers and their top sellers and earners can be found after the jump.

PS4_Bundle_Star_Wars

Both bundles include a 500GB PS4 along with a few games so if you’re interested, meet me after the jump for details.

PS4 Remote Play Coming to Mac and PC

PS4 Remote Play

Over the weekend, it was revealed by Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studios at PlayStation, that PS4 Remote Play would be coming to Mac and PC. Though no timeframe was given, seeing how there was no need for him to address or confirm its release, we’ll either hear about it at PlayStation Experience which takes place this Friday or will have some kind of release no later than E3.
But does it matter?

Sony Releases new PS4 ‘Black Friday – Best Place To Play 2015’ Ad

PS4_Black_Friday_Ad

To kick off Thanksgiving and show why PlayStation continues to be the best place to game, Sony has released a new PS4 ad. Dubbed ‘Black Friday – Best Place to Play 2015,’ the new ad emphasis on a exclusives like Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and 3rd party titles that offer something more on PlayStation like Star Wars Battlefront, Destiny, and Call of Dusty: Black Ops 3.

Finally Sony points out the new $299 price tag which is valid till the 30th. It was just revealed that Star Wars Battlefield has more players on PS4 than on Xbox One and PC Combined. PS4 also just crossed the 30 million units sold marker, owning more than 50% of the market. You can say things are going well for Sony on the gaming front.

Now mobile, that’s a different story. Ad can be found after the jump.

More PS4 Players on ‘Star Wars Battlefront’ than Xbox One and PC Combined

Star_Wars_Battlefront_PS4

There’s been an awakening. Have you felt it?

That’s how the teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens begins. Without a shadow of a doubt, Star Wars is going to break all kinds of records when it arrives in theaters in less than a month. Having just spent last night at Disneyland and partaken in the soft launch of Season of the Force the weekend prior which is now in full effect, it’s certain that whomever or whatever sides with Star Wars this year is going to see a major spike and PlayStation is no different. The PS4 is already cleaning the clocks of Xbox One which sits between 15-17 million units sold compared to that of 30 million units.

With Star Wars Battlefront, Sony and EA have joined forces (had to) in creating exclusive themed bundles, digital downloads, and unique controllers like the Darth Vader Dualshock 4. As long as Sony can put compelling PlayStation content that’s tied to Star Wars with a bit of press, all they need to do is sit back and ride the hype. With Star Wars Battlefront having been out for less than two weeks, Sony is already reaping in the rewards and it’s likely only going to increase.

PS4_Players_Mega_Pack_Bundle

Sony wants to have another blockbuster holiday with PS4 and putting together an enticing bundle is one such way. To that end, a new 1TB PS4 Players Mega Pack Bundle will be arriving on November 30th. While the name might be a mouthful, frankly a mouthful of heavy hitting games is included with it.

PS4 Passes 2 Million Units Sold in Japan

Official PS4_02

A long time ago, Japan was the bell weather indicator of a consoles and games success. In that time, the dominance of the once gaming Mecca has fallen with most AAA titles and console sales coming from the North America and Europe. Still, the country beyond a symbolic link plays a role in the success of a console and Japan has just pushes PS4 a bit more ahead.
