‘Uncharted’ Movie Official, Sony Hires Director Seth Gordon

Uncharted_Movie_Seth_Gordon

The path to an Uncharted film has been a long one with Sony Pictures looking at many well-known directors, like David O. Russell and Neil Burger. While Russell’s take was the furthest from the core Uncharted plot line, neither director ended up panning out for the film. In fact, even Naughty Dog, the famous developers behind the franchise, have tried to help make the movie happen, turning to Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to pen the film but neither could come up with an original take.

Despite little presence, it seems that Sony Pictures has quietly continued its efforts to make the film happen and finally has an official director for the project.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg Offered to Script ‘Uncharted’ Movie

Seth Rogan Evan Goldberg

From the time the first Uncharted title was released for the PlayStation 3, Sony Pictures has been wanting to get a movie going, based on the now extremely popular franchise. This should come as little surprise as the series developed by Naughty Dog has been a hit with fans and critics. In fact, one of the most enduring facts about the franchise has been its blockbuster movie-like experience that comes so natural to the series. While other games are at times a much harder transition to the big screen, Uncharted is rooted in a cinematic world with a modern twist on Indiana Jones. Now, nearly 7 years after the first title, Sony Pictures is no closer to getting a film going, despite previous having big names attached to the project like director David O. Russell and Mark Wahlberg who would eventually be replaced by Limitless director Neil Burger. With both directors off the project, Naughty Dog has turned their attention towards Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to help get the project going.

Second ‘The Last of Us’ TV Ad Airs

The Last Of Us TV Ad 2

In just about a month’s time, Sony’s latest AAA title, The Last of Us, from the creators of Uncharted, is set to ship. To help kick things off, a second television ad has just hit the airwaves during the NBA playoffs, resulting in millions of people catching a glimpse of the Naughty Dog title. Fans will note that the latest PS3 exclusive title was delayed by a few months in order to allow for more polish and development on the game, something I highly value and appreciate. This also means that The Last of Us will hit store shelves on June 14th, traditionally when game droughts take place. Hopefully this delay will also pay off for Sony and Naughty as games released in fall and spring face much more competition which can hurt sales. This also means that gamers will now have one more title to play during summer, instead of just replaying through old games. After the jump, the latest 30 second TV spot awaits you.

No ‘The Last of Us’ is Not Coming Out for PS4

The Last Of UsAs many of you have probably heard by now, Naughty Dog, the developers behind Uncharted, the hit PlayStation 3 series are delaying The Last of Us. Set in an entirely different world, the ambitious game followers the story of Joel and Ellie in a post apocalyptic world and features the most stunning PS3 graphics to date. The developers have in fact been quoted for saying that they’ve maxed out the PS3 in every way possible. Wanting to release the game to their stands, the games May 7th release date has been pushed back by a month to June 14th, to ensure the team has some more polish time. Talking with the PlayStation Blog, Lead Game Designer Neil Druckmann said,

instead of cutting corners or compromising our vision, we came to the tough decision that the game deserved a few extra weeks to ensure every detail of The Last of Us was up to Naughty Dog’s internal high standards.

As a team we pride ourselves on setting a very high quality bar for every aspect of our games – gameplay, story, art, design, technology and more. We want to make sure The Last of Us raises that bar even further – for ourselves, and most importantly, for you, our fans.

Naughty Dog Reveals New Look for Ellie, from The Last of Us. Is it Good? (updated with 5 additional pics)

Via their Facebook page, Naughty Dog has just revealed a revamped look for Ellie, one of the main characters from their upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive, The Last of Us. This time around, Naughty Dog decided to go for a more “youthful look” to the surviving character. Judging by the reaction on Facebook and our own, many fans prefer the older, more mature look. With that said, we don’t know the context of the character and the older, more adult looking Ellie might have taken away from the character arch and story that the team is trying to portray. Let us know in the comments section which look you prefer. Additional 5 pictures, after the jump.

Uncharted 3 TV Commercial Debuts During Tonight’s NFL Kickoff

The NFL season is set to kick off tonight with a game between the Packers and the Saints, which always draws in million of loyal viewers throughout the US. Sony, who is betting on the usual millions who tune in for these games, also knows that the viewers, in many cases, also cross over to the gaming world and make up a large part of their install base. With the summer leaving NFL season in doubt due to the then looming strike, fans will be hungry to see some great NFL action with the return of the season and Sony is hungry to show them what many consider the greatest exclusive of this generation, Uncharted 3. During the game, Sony will debut a new 30-second Uncharted 3 commercial for the PlayStation 3 exclusive that is set to launch on November 1st.

Discuss:

With the game still well over a month away, it’s nice to see Sony start off the game’s marketing campaign so early. Having now seen the TV spot, what do you think about the commercial? Does the new TV spot help draw in viewers to the game or is there still something missing from Sony’s marketing campaign?
